The Southampton Thread!

The bumming Southampton are getting now was as inevitable as anything I've ever seen in football.

So, work hard, build your own youth up to first team standard, get close to being a Europa League level club just 3 or 4 players short of a possible CL spot, then have the 'big boys' come in and take them off your hands as ready-made models.

But don't worry, they'll give you a right good fee for them.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Southampton now went out and spent this summer's money on a load of foreign players?

Does anyone think this 'model' will be attractive to other clubs of Sothampton's size? Or will they just think fuck it, we'll stick to importing foreign kids on the cheap?

This is what happens when you force home grown quotas on clubs. The top clubs will have all the decent home grown players, and the lesser clubs will have them for one or two seasons. Another way to ensure that the top teams stay at the top. The other side is that some home grown players will be forced to stay at clubs and not get a game in as they are not as good as the first team players. These players may well turn into world beaters if allowed to play week in, week out for a few seasons. This is possibly worse for the development of the English national team.

Don't agree

Southampton don't need the money, they have a healthy backing and if Katharina Liebherr had any ambition and balls about her she would've kept Pochettino, the players and invested to try and push for a European spot.

Pochettino was more than willing to stay but once he got wind certain players were being sold he wanted out, i don't blame him to be honest.

If her father Markus Liebherr was still alive it would've been a different story
At least she can dig her club out of the huge hole they are now in.

What hole, there wasn't a hole, they were moving in the right direction?

Time will tell but i think they'll be in the bottom five next season, if i was a Saints fan i'd be fuming

I realised that afterwards as per my reply to Grumpyfrog's "Whoosh" comment

I'll let you have that one, although since being a mod I've not abused my status "yet". ;-)

Soton fans think their team is being crushed as richer clubs take their better players but thats the way it is, what if they go to Burnley and take some of their best players. Like they got Rodriguez from there and now they looking at Danny Ings. Pretty much the same just Soton the richer club...

At least they get very good prices.

Morgan Schneiderlin linked with Arsenal today.

Also just seen that Jay Rodriguez is 8/11 to join Tottenham.

Imagine if they lose Lambert, Shaw , Lallana, Lovren, Schneiderlin and Rodriguez in one Summer?

They better have a decent incoming transfer plan for next season because they may just have to replace an entire spine of a team.

Sammy Lee joining the coaching staff at Southampton under Ronald Koeman. Thing is, he'd agreed to join Brighton as assistant to new manager Sami Hyppia (sp?). Looks like he's done the dirt on Brighton and they're none too happy about it.

Feel sorry for s' ton, I've nothing against them & I cant help but feel sorry for their club and fans, no pottachino, shaw, lambert, lallana and probably Rodriguez.

Theyre gonna have to do some rebuilding thats for sure. The new manager will want his own players and his own system. They wont go down but will probably be in the bottom half 80% of the season.
