The Squad planning thread

I meant Dips and Arse. McAllister, Rice, Califiori, Sterling, Havertz.....

And which of those would have turned us down because they wanted to go to the clubs they are at ?

McAllister only wanted to sign for the dippers, Rice wanted to go to Arsenal, Havertz was shit at Chelsea with no real indications that he was top class, Califiori don't know about yet either for club he chose or quality , Sterling we know about ................................

KDB; Gundy; Lewis; Bernie; Rodri (during transfer window); Johnny?; and the demand from many on here to give academy lads some time.

Rodri was a shock that you can’t anticipate because no great player would have come as his back up. However, they would in January because they’ve got a season to make the position theirs

Probably been said before but a lot obviously depends on Peps situation. Next summer though I think we will need to strengthen the entire squad. Realistically 5-6 payers of the highest available quality could possibly need to come in.

We won't have that kind of turnover, but I see this being Walker's, KDB's last season. There may be others who will leave too. Plus I think we're already light in numbers, with a back up striker a must.

However, I just don't anticipate we'd bring in 5/6 players.

3 or 4 then, lol.

I think five or six is a bit ambitious but it should definitely be no fewer than four over the next two windows. Walker and KDB will likely be gone, possibly Gundogan too. Ortega may also decide he wants to move on. Then you have question marks about Nunes and whether or not we can give him game time (probably not). Might the same be true for McAtee (he'll probably stay)? Bernardo will probably see out his final year. My feeling is we'll probably enter next season with a squad along the lines of:

Ederson
Ortega/new GK
Carson

New RB (keep seeing Frimpong?)
Akanji
Ake
Dias
Stones
Gvardiol
Lewis

Rodri
Kovacic
New DM (Ricci?)
McAtee
Bernardo
New MF (Musiala?)
Foden

Savinho
Doku
Grealish
Bobb

Haaland
New Striker (not seen any names other than Kyogo?)

The usual 23 may end up being 25 with O'Reilly, Wright, Wilson-Esbrand and Doyle all on the periphery.

Depends on what Pep wants to make him happy, if he wants 5/6 players I’m sure the club would do it.

Expect KDB, Bernardo, Gundogan and Kovacic all to be gone in 2 years. Leaves us with only Rodri, Nunes, Foden, Rico and McAtee in midfield. Gonna need a couple midfielders soon. Also expect Walker to be gone next summer, might need two RBs

He got injured in the euro final so the warning signs where there but we thought we could get way with it .

Yes but it wasn’t a season long injury. Anyone we signed in summer would be on the understanding they would have been second place to Rodri

Playing second fiddle to the best holding mid in world by a country is not such a bad gig is it . If

I don't think we did ourselves any favours in the summer regarding long-term thinking.

I know many are absolute in the innocence of the 115 charges, but I 100% believe the club have held back this summer just in case worst case scenario occurs, because I cannot see us allowing ourselves to be put in a scenario where we need to replace KDB, Walker next summer and have Kovacic, Gundogan, Grealish, Ederson, Akanji, Stones, Ake and Bernardo Silva all in their 30s by next season.

Add in the fact the uncertainty over Pep's future.

We have a lot of ageing players at the moment, of whom many are our key players and to replace them all we could be looking at 100s of millions needed to be spent.

Next summer is potentially the biggest since 2010/11 because we could be left with an ageing squad, the best midfielder and right back the PL has seen leave the club and the best manager of all time maybe leaving.

RB, 2 CM, KDB replacement ( hopefully Musiala) and a Haaland backup would be everything. Walker is declining. Kovacic and Gundo are not starter level for a team like City in my opinion and KDB is basically injured for half a season for 3 years now.

2 in at Jan (DM/ST), 3 in at Summer (RB/CM/AM) split?
