The Squad planning thread

Keepers: Ederson (30) Stefan Ortega (31) Scott Carson (38)
RB:Rico Lewis (19) (Yan Couto (22)) (Issa Kabore (23))
CB:(Luke Mbete(20))(Collum Doyle (20))
LB:Sergio Gomez (23)(Josh Wilson-Esbrand (21))
Midfield: Kalvin Phillips (28) (James McAtee (21)) (Maximo Perrone (21))
Wingers:Jack Grealish (28) Oscar Bobb (20)
Strikers: Erling Haaland (23) (Liam Delap) (21)

Only two or three first choice seniors in those returning to training next Monday ahead of first pre-season game v Celtic on the 23rd in North Carolina. The rest - Couto, Kabore, Mbete, Doyle, Gomez, Esbrand, McAttee, Phillips, Perrone, Bobb and Delap - are all tipped to move on loan or permanently before the PL season starts along with Cancelo, KDB & even Ederson according to some on the wilder shores of the internet. Looking a bit thin without reinforcements if those rumours turn out correct but guessing the departures will be balanced by arrivals and I reckon we'll be a slightly larger and stronger senior squad come Sep 1.

Might have to, the problem of having a worldie that does not get injured, is no one wants to play understudy, hence Phillips maybe that is now Nunes?
Stones is a phenomenal CB and a below average CDM. The system of putting a CB in midfield ( be that Stones or Akanji) was part of our biggest problem last season.

It was an interesting quirk that worked for a few months 2 seasons ago. It helped us get back on a run. But by the last month of the season, teams had already begun to figure it out and nullify it's advantages.

Last season, it was mostly a detriment. We simply need technical footballers on the ball in the midfield. The real trick is to switch to a double pivot, so whoever the Rodri back up is, actually plays next to him a often. Hence why the Newcastle kid was a very good call.

We are looking for a Kovacic upgrade. It's why we wanted Rice (Thank God we didn't get him though). But someone of that caliber. A 6/8 hybrid. The Portuguese kid I love. Albeit a little short.

But by God, we want fewer defenders on the ball when we are in possession. Frankly a switch to a 3 -6-1 will be great.

I think your right but finding a decent player to play understudy to the best DM in the world, who is almost an ever present might be hard. who ever we get to play in front of him already has about 6 contenders.
