The Squad planning thread

trafford should be our number 1. i dont care how good donna is at stopping ball our formation has been in shambles the entire year simply because of him.
This is simply not true.
I prefer Trafford also, but criticisms of formation laid at the door of the keeper is nonsense, IMO.
We are simply in a transitional season, caught between different styles, while integrating a host of young players to replace some world-class, experienced talent.

I keep reading that we are interested in someone from Sporting Lisbon.
that most likely is Hjulmand

good work rate, intelligent, efficient passing

not very effective against high press, he does not fully replicate Rodri’s elite tempo control

I have not seen anything of him, but it is the case that Rodri became the world's best at Manchester City, and was not that when he arrived, like a lot of our legends.

I have always thought that Isiah Dada-Mascoll could be Rodri's heir, but he has been so devastated by injury over the last two years. Hopefully, he is now en-route to a career at the top of the professional game. He is such a unit, but very, very technical - like Rodri is.

Looks like Pep Rodri Bernie Stones and Ake are going amongst others hope I'm wrong
add
Jack
Trafford (Wrong choice with the way we play)
Rico L
Akanji gone but not paid for yet
Philips free
Marmoush ?
Savio if Pep go's
others, academy and maybe surprises

Should bring in plenty cash and empty a big chunk off the wage bill
We’d be losing most of our proven winners and the best manager in the world. We’d also have to sign loads of new players

We’d be in complete transition. How do you replace that?

we wont be in complete transition

we already added a lot of young and exciting players to the core and we are in a good place

manager wise, we most likely choose someone in similar style to Pep - Enzo or Xabi or Enrique

Losing most of our first team, who have experience of winning. Players like Rodri, who are vital to our success and the best manager in the world.

Surely with that amount of change, as we’ve seen with other clubs, will take us time to recover from?

We’ve seen it over the last two seasons. We’ve changed most of the side and our standards and quality have dropped. And it’s taken lots of our players time to settle

I’d be amazed if we easily kept the level of success we’ve had previously. With all that change

yes, but that won't be complete transition

mentality and other stuff will take time, but it wont a very long imho

And so, so many said the same of Nunes.
We must be more patient with young players, IMO, and both are just 21.
I get that with Lewis, he doesn't look that out of place. Savio I just don't think will ever be good enough.

Patience is needed here because of the injuries. He does seem to have all the tools necessary to be Rodri's successor.

Anderson is a 6 more than a 8
Tonali is a 8 more than a six with high work rate.

If Bernardo and Rodri go that’s your two replacements makes sense with the links now that haven’t gone away.

Agreed, i think with such strong links to both players now, the club may already be planning for Rodri to go. One thing is for certain, Viana isnt going to bend over the way Txiki did at times!

Well if what’s being reported in the media about Rodri talking up Real Madrid is true I think we can safely say he’s gone this summer, it’s crucial we get his replacement
spot on along with any others that’s leaving.

I’d like to keep Rodri but from a money perspective if you can get 60 to 70 mil for 30 year old with one year left on their contract and sign two of the best premier league mids who are 23 and 25.

It’s hard not to do that, Tonali and Anderson are two players that you can rebuild the midfield with. Both young and experienced. Will go up levels under Pep.

Of course the club were/are planning for Rodri to go. He is 30 soon approaching the end of his contract and on his way back from a major injury.
Rodri is probably also looking at his future, and what’s best for his longevity.
Is it a contract negotiation comment, or is it a I’m leaving one.Who knows, but it’s something that happens at every football club every week.City may not want to offer him a big money contract, following a serious injury,as they are concerned how he recovers.
The club is run by professionals from Khaldoon down, whether it be Txixi or Viana and will of course have succession planning at the front of their minds.
I’m not sure the manager and the whole squad is leaving though ( as posted earlier in this thread)

Because of Donnarumma we've been bad this year?? You're casually ignoring the fact he save our arses from a further humiliation during that period. Wild take, best GK itw, 27yo and we had our best period of the season with him December 2025 (8/8 wins).

I'm sorry but Savinho and Lewis are just never gonna be good enough. They've been both given plenty of opportunity and we've suffered every time we did that.
