The Squad planning thread

Agree Zubimendi is definitely worth a punt (assuming he's willing to leave Sociedad) but Kubo? I'm really not sure how the latter improves our current squad other than to add to the numbers.

Kubo similar to Grealish can get goals and assist but controls a game more. But the opinion in Spain is Kubo can turn a game when he wants to , can be unplayable. If he was at a bigger club his numbers could improve. He just glides with the ball. With Grealish injuries he could be a great replacement

Spain have release clauses , clubs can’t do anything if triggered, Zubimendi has a 60 million clause we just have to trigger it, if he agrees to come.
And right there is the potential problem. Zubimendi is previously on record as having committed himself to Sociedad when being courted by other big clubs. We only have to hope that the appeal of playing for serial winners under the best coach in the world proves irresistible!

We are looking for a kdb replacement( one doesn’t exist btw) and the two proposed high end target may not be available now :

Wirtz has a higher chance of ending at Bayern or Madrid. Read somewhere he doesn’t fancy England so much

As per latest repost Musiala is willing to extend his contract at Bayern ( At Kane level wages!) Crazy ain’t it

So I hope we have eyes on the next such creator. Scouts do your thing.

Bayern really want to pair Musiala and Wirtz. Leverkusen don’t want to sell Wirtz but if they have to they don’t want to sell to Bayern. The issue is obviously Madrid if they get Alonso then Wirtz may follow. Even if we got Wirtz I would worry about Bayern tapping him up through the international squad as we had with Sané

This week at German international camp Musiala was asked about his contract and he said he was happy at Bayern but did not wish to discuss his contract and he would leave it until the new year to discuss with the club. That was this week. That sounds like a player still keeping his options open.

Bayern for their part have offered as stated a very good salary and are confident he will sign the new terms.

The thing is, there aren’t many out there. Dani Olmo was the one we should have gone ball’s deep for. Yet we didn’t even seem interested really.

I feel like the standard of quality and abundance of quality creative attacking midfield players is getting worse and smaller.

I’m not even sure either of Wirtz or Musiala are any better than two lads who have come out of our academy in Foden and Palmer. Outside those four and maybe the young Turkish lad at Madrid plus maybe Odegaard (who, like Bellingham, I think is a bit overrated)… that’s about all that gets you excited in world football in attacking midfield.

You look at lists for top rated young attacking midfielders outside that lot above and you’re hitting names like Morgan Gibbs-White. Madness!

It’s the same with strikers n’all. The talent pool is of a low standard and is extremely small. Are youngsters not playing football anymore? Are they choosing other sports or are they choosing other paths rather than sport?

Something is very very wrong with worldwide football academies at the moment.

David Silva couldn’t get in Spain’s midfield and played in the front three a lot due to the quality in his position. David fuckin Silva, man. Now there isn’t even a David Silva out there, never mind an Andres Iniesta level midfielder who was on another planet to even DSilva. And they both played at the same time as De Bruyne and Modric… a fit 33 year old De Bruyne is still the best in the world now. Bloody hell even a semi fit De Bruyne pissed it with assists-per-minute last season, made everyone else look like a joke!

It’s not only the attacking midfielders. It’s everywhere in my opinion beside goalkeepers and maybe Central defenders. Vinicius as an example wouldn’t scratch the top 5 wingers years ago .

Looks like you know little about how either player plays or their playing characteristics. You sound almost like his agent's mouthpiece, promoting him aggressively to all major big clubs in Europe. Isn't his agent the same one as Palace's Kamada? If true, then be warned of that guy.

I still have a disappointing feeling that for some reason Pep will say he’s happy with what we have and not sign anyone in January, despite us being in need of pace in midfield, another striker, and being ravaged by injuries.

We just seem to be a bit apathetic this season. It’s a shame really, as we must have the money, but there appears a huge reluctance to match our rivals in the transfer market. I don’t know why.

And it will bite us on the arse if, let’s say, we beat a lot of the 115 charges but we have a transfer ban of some sort come out of them.

Pretending im Viana:

Lukeba/Diomande , Zubimendi , Livramento , Hato , Baena, Kulusevski, Tjukavin/Marmoush

This is depending on who leaves in our defence.
Livramento replaces Walker. Hato is an insane talent aswell as a versatile LB/LCB hybrid. Been effective in terms of G+A this season. Lukeba/Diomande to replace one of Stones/Ake.

Zubimendi I’d bring in for January. However if nobody is brought in in January. I’d assess the market. I’d be willing to return for Bruno G but assume the same issues may arise in terms of a transfer with valuation. Baleba is another one I like but negotiations with Bloom are difficult.

Baena and Kulusevski are technical wizards and with KDB leaving in the coming years this can replace his assist output and get more players in to supply Haaland.

In terms of a Haaland back-up: Tyukavin has been throughly impressive in Russia - good to explore these markets before the players explode in price when they move to big European nations. Alternatively Marmoush has been phenomenal this season and can back-up Haaland and play anywhere across the front-line.

They can only recommend.
Up to Sporting Directors or DoF's if the advice is taken.

Lukeba , zubimendi, hato, marmoush of that list

Nothing has changed with Pep's contract extension. Transfers will not happen until the summer. Availabilty in January is the major issue.
