The Squad planning thread

Need or like?

A right back should not cost a fortune but if we don’t spend a fortune they are no better than the options we already have hence why we haven’t bought one.

Need imo mate. Nunes wouldn’t start for any other major team

If stones goes, reis gets left out I think. Yeah forgot echeverri, so technically even with the announced left out players and kovacic's injury, we would still have 27 first team players. Academy kids can forget it, was saying earlier I think the current u21's will get completely screwed by this rebuild. We'll end up selling that entire generation.
Completely screwed? If they are good enough there’ll have a pathway into the first team like Foden Lewis O’Reilly, if they aren’t good enough there’ll be sold, that’s the level we’re at and I think it’s a good working model. We could of course not invest in the likes of Rodri Haaland Marmoush Reijnders Cherki etc but I’d prefer we do, best of both worlds. We will lose kids like Palmer who at the time most of us thought £45m was a fair price for someone who didn’t want a longer contract, or Rogers who has surprised most of us with his recent progression. It’s done well for us

The club paid an insane amount for such a young unproven CB. If you pay that much you expect some type of potential and you can only reach it by playing him. If he still needs 2 years or something then u can easily loan him to France or maybe try to loan him within the PL. it just makes no sense to pay 35M to barely play that guy. Even Endrick got more games and he plays in a position with the world‘s best. It’s the same with Khusanov. 40m for a CB with such good attributes is not going to get better if they barely play. I think keeping 1 of Ake/ Stones and Akanji is okay but here like in the midfield we need to sell at least 2 so the talent ( O’Reilly, Reis, Khusanov) can actually get game time.

I am sure Reis would’ve played more for Madrid same with Khusanov. Not only because they had several injuries in the CB position but also because if Madrid deems you good enough they play you no matter the age. Asensio came out of nowhere and is only a year older than Khusanov, they bought Huijsen for 50 and are planning to introduce another 6‘5 guy from their academy as the number 4 in front of injury prone militao and Alaba. If you want you can.

For me the age thing is just a reason not to play certain players even though these same players would most likely start for another club at a similar level. The best example is PSG. Imagine we bought Doue for 50M and told him that he will get his chances because he is too raw/ young or whatsoever. Obviously it’s easier as an offensive player to start because your failures most likely don’t return into a goal but still. Khusanov had good games - PL player of the month and Reis shows that he might actually be our best ball playing CB already behind Stones.

Juventus sold Huijsen for like 8m and look where he is after one season.

Viana and Pep will know what to do obviously yet - no one is perfect.
Arsenal paid 27m in 2019 money for Saliba. He was out on loan for three years, returning aged 22. Turned out okay, didnt it.

Looks a well balanced squad to me

3GK : Ederson / ortega / Bettinelli

2RB : Livramento/ Nunes
5CB : Dias / Gvardiol / Khusanov / Reis / Ake
2LB: Ait Nouri / oreilly

4CM :Rodri / Gonzales / Reijnders/ Lewis

5AM: Foden / Cherki / MGW / Bobb / Echeverri

2WG : Doku / Savinho

2FW : Haaland / Marmoush

Again, we aren't getting Livramento lol

There's absolutely no pathway into the first team with 7 new signings in 6 months, and probably 11/12 within a year. The downside of the fast rebuild is players still have their contracts on top of that and while some will be happy to go, some won't and the consequence will be a massively inflated squad that it'll take 1/2 years to get down.

Kids aren't getting a sniff from now till 2027.

This is the team in my opinion.

If they are good enough they’ll make it, if not they won’t. I’m happy getting the best players we can either bought or via the academy. Should we not buy the best players we can to accommodate lower quality academy players?

But there are several players who will be gone either this transfer window or next summers.
With the possible exception of Bah, none of the on loan players are coming back.
Gundogan, Kovacic, Stones, Ake, Akanji, Grealish, Bernardo are all in the departure lounge.
Nunes, Savinho, McAtee, Lewis and Doku, while younger, need to up their game.
This time next year we could be looking at several of the youngsters being drafted in.

Turkish press today reporting today that Zenit offered Galatasaray €15 million for Sara, a move which would have doubled his salary. Both club and player turned the offer down; he's reportedly valued at €22 million.

Sure! Because he went on loan! and after the loan he was brought in immediately to the starting 11. he didn't spend any time as 7th choice CB, wasting his time and not developing - he went to get crucial game time.

If you’re being ruthless add Nunes and Lewis to the OUT list
Nunes, yes. If you have Livramento. Nunes can go. Lewis is English and can backup Livramento.

I just doubt the Livramento acquisition will happen. If it does, send Nunes on his way the next day.

He's not getting rid of Bernardo, Gundogan, Kovacic, Stones, Grealish and Akanji all in 1 window in my opinion.

If we buy a right back like Livramento, then Akanji stays, can cover anywhere across the back four, much more likely to see Nunes go in that scenario.

He also wont get rid of Gundogan, Bernardo and Kovacic all in one window, he'll keep at least 1 of those 3, Bernardo probably.

If a good offer comes in for any of them, then yes they probably go but not all of them in my opinion.

We would depend on Livramento being fit in terms of offensive output. Lewis just is no RB and will never be one.
