The Squad planning thread

When dod he say that?

Not that he is not right.
He was asked by a journalist what the expectations were for this season. He said he expected a good season but that if we were comparing to recent past City sides then “we are going to lose”

We've offloaded a few and brought a lot of good players in, albeit a lot are young and unproven.

We might need a couple of more drastic windows to fix things, but we're in a position where the younger players either step up or can be sold for decent money still to fund a better replacement. We're therefore in a strong position. If Savinho and Doku don't make their mark this campaign then we'll see them for a similar amount to what we paid for them overall (more for Sav, less for Doku realistically) and can bring in more quality.

Things can change very quickly, our decline came at us fairly fast and the upturn won't take long either.

We start what feels like the long road back to the top now, and we're in a much better position than we were going into the January window.

But some on here think Rodri is talking bullshit cause it doesn't fit in with their weak and feeble attempts to avoid the obvious.

Imagine not believing one of the most important players in out clubs entire history

All is not well it seems. He could be talking about professionalism or winning mentality or more specific things he can’t say without naming names.
I always pay attention to Rodri. First he did an interview with the Fail saying he feared for his health because of the amount of games he was having to play, which was a direct dig at Philips. Up to that point, I was all for giving Kalvin time, but after that I promptly changed my mind.

Then he made comments alluding to our squad size being too small & the strain it was putting on Pep's small squad, which probably reflected the feelings of the squad. Following that, both Foden & Bernardo made similar comments.

In his post match interview on Saturday, he used the word "kids" three times, which possibly meant we made too quick a transition from the treble winners to a brand new squad who didn't get the Manchester City work ethic & playing ethos. Again, this was down to Pep refusing the offer to start our succession planning until it was too late.

Now this comment today. I take this to mean things on the training ground & in the dressing room aren't too good. If you stand back & take a global overview of the Rodri, Foden & Bernardo comments, it seems they're aimed at Pep.

Rodri is far too intelligent to make throwaway comments without being aware of their impact. What he said on Saturday & in this tweet is calculated. It does seem all isn't well. Fuck! :-/

Maybe he's pointing out some of our recent acquisitions from the Bundesliga were not really team players - hopefully now pursuing their fortunes elsewhere. Not at all sure that Traff in particular has enjoyed the vibe although his new companion will no doubt exercise him as well.

I don't see it as that tbh. If you look back at his comments from 2 years ago & boil them down, they all lead to Guardiola decisions.

Overplaying his small squad. Players not up to scratch. Squad too small. Kids making childish errors & now getting this right away from the pitch.

I just sense all isn't right behind the scenes & with Guardiola. Pep hasn't seemed right since 12 months ago.

Hmmmm ….”not only on the pitch”

Possibly too much running or physical work in training that’s causing these injuries? Cherki is never going to be a running machine but maybe they have tried to work him too hard too fast? The injury list already is a joke and the squad looks weak as fuck! Could also be about Pep not adjusting to counter the defensive issues at the moment? He’s not happy anyway and I can’t imagine he’s going to rush to sign that new contract as it stands.

We should’ve been all over Semenyo IMO.

Said on another thread I can't believe no one went for him before he signed the new contract. Physically an absolute beast and so comfortable moving into goal scoring positions.

Doku has this season and if he doesn't impress he will be out the door and I would expect us to be all over him.

We have to do everything we can to keep Rodri at the club. He will drive the standards, which have fallen off the cliff. Too many passengers and you could see on Sunday how mentally fragile we are, which would never have been the case a couple of seasons ago.

Whether he is criticising the coaching or the general attitude of players, I'm not sure, but it's good someone is and he is the guy people should listen to.

Hopefully Donnarumma brings some extra presence and professionalism to the team asap. The collapse of the best team in the world in 2 years is genuine staggering

I had to step away for a few days because I couldn’t keep listening to the doom and gloom merchants. I’m naturally a positive person and I’d rather focus on the good things happening with our club. If, before the window opened, someone had told us we’d be signing Donnarumma, Reijnders, Cherki, Trafford and Ait Nouri, people would have been absolutely delighted. Yet the same people who would have celebrated that news are now tearing the window apart, and I just can’t see the sense in it.

We’ve got so much to look forward to. We’ve won everything, we’ve lived through some of the best moments of our lives following this team, and now we find ourselves in a position we haven’t been in for a long time. To me, that’s exciting. Instead of nitpicking, why not embrace the fact that we’re building something strong and enjoy the journey?

What is success? It's not winning everything all the time to me, it's following the club I love through thick and thin.

It happens. That's football. Nothing lasts forever.

Success doesn't last forever. I'm genuinely lucky I got to witness my club achieve the success they have, and I'm blessed to have experienced istanbul with my old man and brother. Memories that will last a lifetime.

Now, it might be Liverpool's time, and that's fine by me. We've been the luckiest fans in the last decade. I guess I just like to see the positive things in life, rather than the negative.

Reminds me of Mane at Southampton. Quite obviously a level above where he’s currently at and just a matter of time before somebody makes a move.
