The Squad planning thread

Them 4 spread across this January and the summer isn't too unrealistic.

Especially considering we'll likely be selling Grealish, Trafford, Savinho, Ake, Ajanji, Phillips.

We just need to get back to signing genuine great players who know the league and will come in and make an instant impact on the first 11.
Semenyo, Anderson and Livramento will come in straight away and make a difference. Van de Ven I’m not so sure about. He’s a very good player but is he better than Gvardiol?

Completely true

Zabaleta
Kompany
Yaya
Kdb
Silva
Aguero
Haaland

However, I think the PL has become so strong the very best in class are already here.

Livermento, Guehi, Anderson, Semenyo

We go back to the best in Europe imo

Agreed. Most of the best players in Europe are already here. It’s not 5/10 years ago, they now come to the premier league and are happy to play at lesser clubs to be in the shop window… it was always going to be the case since the TV money flooded the league, we’ve had the best managers for a while, most CL later stage teams, the next natural progression was improvement in smaller clubs in the division, which is exactly why the league is so tight now. There is an abundance of individual quality in most of the teams outside the leagues established elite. Whilst these clubs may not be able to afford to keep these players services, their agents aren’t stupid, they pitch their players here for a reason…

Lot of talk of Anderson in January but if it's true he's going be a lot cheaper in the summer than I can't see it happening. Forest are apparently very reluctant to even accept ~100M in Jan.

Semenyo I can see happening.

We need more than one midfielder of this type anyway and he'll be treated like anyone we sign if he plays well he'll keep getting picked and any new signing would have to dislodge him?

Nico is on the red line fitness wise, Rodri and Kova no date set to return. If we can get a player like Gallagher in January the 1st it gives us a lot of breathing space. Forest might go down if they lost Anderson in January, don't think it will be possible and it certainly won't happen in the first week of the transfer window.

Getting a home grown, PL proven, CL experienced mid twenties England International for 30 million in a position we desperately need cover is an absolute no brainer for me. Pep would have him, hes talked him up to the press in the past.

He's miles more suited to the role we are currently asking Bernardo to do, he'd start most games at the moment imo.
I'm fully with you on Gallagher.

I don't think there's a risk of having too much depth. There is a big ? with Rodri and Kova's futures.

we are constantly linked to Nathaniel Brown from Frankfurt

he is a LB and it kinda hurts my brain - O'reilly to be moved to different position or are we binning Ait-Nouri?

A lot depends on Rodri for me and his not only fitness but contract going forward. If he stays and we can keep him fit i would go for Wharton personally but if Rodri is struggling or wants out then i will prefer Anderson. Dont think we have room for both Anderson and Wharton even when Bernardo and Kovacic leave.

Semenyo, Anderson and Livramento will come in straight away and make a difference. Van de Ven I’m not so sure about. He’s a very good player but is he better than Gvardiol?
No mate. Gvardiol is a top 5 defender in world football. VDV is still a quality and very unique profile. Would be useful against certain profiles as a LB. High ceiling as he's obviously physically unique. Could see us deploying him sort of how we used Ake before. But, In saying that, I do miss Ake being healthy and at his best. What a player. Incredibly smart and tough. Not sure VDV has the same level footballing brain at the moment.

Re the others:
Anderson sure. We undoubtedly need physicality in midfield. What I'd do for a 28-year old Fernandinho to appear. What a world of difference he'd make in our current squad. Maybe Anderson is the closest thing..? Time will tell. These players tend to age well. I'd be okay spending for this player.

Livra I'm less sure would pay immediate dividends. In Livra's case, he cant really do much better than Nunes has. Nunes been a no doubter top 5 RB in the world this season. Incredible mental fortitude and commitment to learn from the lad. Proud of his ascension. If he can remove those random lapses in concentration we've got ourselves sorted. But - would like to see Livra come in so we have 2 strong options.

Semenyo. I think the biggest difference he would make to us in the short-term, is that he wouldn't be playing for Arsenal. I think he would be class playing off the likes of Havertz/Merino. Him and Eze with Saka would be quite the upgrade for Arsenal. For us, I think he would be great too. Don't get me wrong. But I'm not sure the role he'd get would be as big as at Arsenal. Maybe he can play right wing and score goals. I'm not too fussed on the goal scoring as I am the lack of creativity. When Foden plays and is in-form, Haaland scores way less goals. Its a fact. Doku has been our most creative player by far this season. I would not hate a more creative option (come home Palmer!!). But if we cant find one, yes to Semenyo too. Fella is a player.
