The Squad planning thread

This is why we need to invest in the squad in January:

Man City's start to 2026 will be non-stop
‍

January 1 - Sunderland (A) - Premier League
January 4 - Chelsea (H) - Premier League
January 7 - Brighton (H) - Premier League
January 10 - Exeter City (H) - FA Cup third round
W/C January 12 - Newcastle United (A) - Carabao Cup semi-final first leg
January 17 - Manchester United (A) - Premier League
January 20 - Bodo/Glimt (A) - Champions League
January 24 - Wolves (H) - Premier League
January 28 - Galatasaray (H) - Champions League
February 1 - Tottenham (A) - Premier League
W/C February 2 - Newcastle United (H) - Carabao Cup semi-final second leg

That is a vicious, brutal run of fixtures. We definitely need to dip into the transfer market and fast-track whatever summer targets we had, bringing them in earlier if possible. It would give us much-needed squad depth and effectively serve as an extended pre-season, especially with the World Cup likely to disrupt preparations. Hopefully, those early additions can make an immediate impact and help us push for one or two trophies — ideally the Champions League and the Premier League.

Agreed mate, Semenyo, Guehi at least, Anderson would be nice and give us a real push at all the major trophies!

Donnarumma / Trafford
Nunes / Khusanov
Dias / Stones
Gvardiol / Ake
O'Reilly / Ait Nouri
Gonzalez / Rodri
Foden / Kovacic / Lewis
Bernardo / Reijnders
Cherki / Bobb
Haaland / Marmoush
Doku / Savinho

Got to start levelling up the 2nd XI.

Semenyo comes in, loan out Bobb / Savinho.

Guehi comes in, loan out Khusanov, get him some game time, always got Rico/Stones when fit as emergency cover. Could even send Khusanov to Palace for some game time, might suit them to have a 'free' replacement in the short term.

Reassess in the summer, see what's happening with Ake and Stones.

I'd be tempted to get a midfielder too, maybe not January but Kovacic is done.

Tough run indeed but what's the earliest we get someone like Semenyo? (Which I don't think will happen).

Toughest games there are the 1st two imo.

How many players can we buy, assuming no one leaves our current squad.

We have to look to now and the summer though mate with the World Cup on the horizon?

Likely that:

Ake
Stones
Kovacic
Bernardo
Phillips

Are all definitely gone and question marks over Savinho and Bobb?
