There is nothing unique about football the American club owners will want to preserve.

Ask Luddite Americans about football. "Boring." "Why do they always tie zero-zero?" "Whiners who fake injuries." "Not a real man's sport."

The entirety of the way the league will work will be to combat these perceptions so that the game makes inroads among Americans over baseball (which kids aren't playing anymore) and American football (which is ultimately doomed in its current form as the science increases on concussions).

One positive is -- as in basketball and hockey -- there will be more cards (or whatever) for flopping.

And the American clubs want to do this (1) before the MLS steals new soccer fans away and (2) before the players in Europe figure out a way to bargain collectively the way that American professional athletes in the big four sports do.
I'm not in a position to argue with you about what the average American sports fan says/thinks, and you may well be right in many respects as to owners' intentions. I'm just imagining that
a) they want to promote football globally, not just in the USA
b) to a certain extent, with the right marketing, it could be a selling point for football to be summat different from US sports
c) ever-growing migrant and migrant-descended populations in the US (especially Hispanics) already know and love football and are just waiting to be sold a good league to watch.

I'm sure there will be ways in which the style/look/vibe of how football is presented goes more American, but the factors I've mentioned above might limit this trend.

Been watching City for 40+ years. If this goes through I'm definitely renewing my season ticket. This is exciting. Lots of new and exciting things to look forward to:

1. What tune/fanfare will we come onto? I'm going for the theme tune to Harold Lloyd played on kazoos.
2. Will we boo it?
3. Will Sterling start in the same 11 as Mendy in the competition?
4. Is it true the trophy has already been made and is equivalent to the Stanley Cup in size?
5. Will the pundits include Keane, Ferdinand, Owen and Neville?

Oohhh...... Can't fucking wait.
Which X factor contestant will be doing the halftime show?

if anyone thinks being part of this is a good thing then they haven't got a clue
we will be thinking we have things under control but there will be 11 other clubs working to fuck us over, no doubt about it

we were stuck between a rock and a hard place.
I hate UEFA \ FIFA with a passion, corrupt organisations that are all about money. I have no interest in the CL, we shouldn't even be in it this year as we aren't champions, they should rebrand it to 'the money making league for the old guard who are a bit shit now trophy'

the issue with ESL is the corruption within UEFA is now part of the ESL
it's made up of the same cartel of clubs who are badly run, massively in debt that want a free pass at getting tons of cash each season even if they are shit

Agnelli is the worst of the bunch, wouldn't believe a word this man says. For him to come out and ask why Roma didn't get CL but Atalanta did sums him up - Atalanta got CL because they did better than Roma - its how it should be - Roma's history amounts to 30 years of qualifying and achieving the square root of fuck all

I wish we had the balls to tell them no way - shame all they good work from the takeover is undone but the choice has been made by the club, one 'legacy' supporter less here
Agnelli is a gangster, a crook, despicable man, his comments earlier in the season said everything about him and his shit mafia club, and we have got into bed with this crook.
