How many points to win the league?

Worth pointing out that every team has a blip every season. Arsenal have had one, City are in one. Dippers will have one. I remember at the start of the season thinking 'damn it City keep winning games and this is supposedly their shit part of the season'. Contrast to today. And some of you guys are lamenting the fact that the title has 'gone' because you're so far behind the victims yet you forget they'll go through a period where they will drop points.

Nothing is over and just take a look at your fixtures from end Feb onwards, compare them with the Dippers. Arsenal also have an easy run in apart from a trip to Anfield.

So it seems like the title is a million miles away yet things will absolutely change. I'll put money on it that the top 2 will be City and Arsenal, not sure what order that will be but while it seems ridiculous now I'll wager Liverpool get 3rd as they've had a piss easy fixture list so far - even their 1 tough game at the Emirates they were playing a depleted Arsenal team that lost its back line during the game. They'll have much trickier fixtures to come, they'll come thick and fast and they'll be balancing with the CL.

Only thing I'd say is watching today's match I did feel some of the City players weren't giving 100%. Savinho for one. Akanji also. Pep will need to look at that as the minimum expectation to play for a Pep side is you work like hell for the team.

Every season before Xmas City have 'lost the title'. Every season. Then once Feb arrives they get their shit together and grind it out. Why would it be any different this time?

If it's not over today it could be if we get turned over at Anfield next week.

I'm not one to throw in the towel but it's a season too far for this squad I think. Would have been tricky with a fit squad: a few key players have lost a yard, I don't know what happened to Phil at the start of the season, a few players are just a touch too young or not at the boil yet, and ultimately that Kalvin Phillips disaster has caught up with us.

It might get worse before it gets better, but I think we'll have enough for top four.

If City get relegated because of 115, we’d piss the Championship. Another trophy for Pep. :-) And a trophy he’s never won before.

We need to start lining up targets and treating this as a transition year. Dippers had a one every third season. We really fucked up in the summer by not buying a top quality player. We’ve done this nearly every season, buy a top top player. We need to go big on at least 3 players now such has been our negligence.

This seaosn is fucked as far as the title goes. Top 4 is the target now and a trophy would be nice but top 4 is priority. We’ll likely be out of the top 4 next weekend.

Arguably we won the PL last season with a team that was weaker than previous campaigns so apart from hoping or expecting our rivals to suffer an equally poor run of form (possible) or Pep to find a way of making us more solid without Rodri (doubtful) our only hope seems to be either blind faith or two major signings in January.

If we win the title this season I will be shocked

That team is on its knees. The defence is nonexistent.

Walker week in, week out is poor just lately.

Akanji looks a shadow of the player he was but I will give him a few more games due to injury

Stones is made of glass it seems now

Gvardiol has been good but me, I would play him CB

We need two full backs and a DM and we can get top 4

If City don’t get top 4 and a CL place, that’s £50mill as a minimum gone.

a really good DM and a player who can come off the bench and score ala Alvarez should have been done before but really needed in Jan

Gvardiol was shocking tonight for 2 of the goals and for Brightons first goal two weeks ago

I agree he’s been good at times this season but also think he gets off with a lot of criticism

Can't see is turning it around in the league once the gap gets to 8+ points.

It's been done before but there's too many holes in this team, a few players that look finished at this level and missing the world's best footballer.

At least it's become absolutely clear that this squad a good few serious replacements and the club will deliver, I've no doubt about that. We probably should have recruited better and prepared for the inevitably of some players becoming over the hill and injuries, but there's no point in dwelling on that now.

I think winning the league by climbing out of a hole will be a step too far this season. If we do it, I'd put it right up there with our greatest achievement, given the fact we're carrying players at this level.

This isn't a defeatist attitude, just the reality of the situation. We've won the last 4, the time was coming where we dont win it.
