How many points to win the league?

Just got back home from Newcastle and whilst I'm disappointed that we didn't win it was another good away day.
The boys put a shift in but it wasn't to be today.
We've been in this situation every year where we all feel that things aren't going well......then look what happens.
It will go to the wire this year and we'll be well in the mix so no time for panic just yet.

I’m quietly confident about the League but can’t help worry about further injuries, especially when working with so small a squad. We’re the best footballing side and have yet to hit our stride, but I think to win it we’ll likely sacrifice both domestic cups and may exit the Champions League at an earlier than expected stage.

We are the best footballing side with Rodri in the team. Without him, and with several aging midfielders, it's anyone's guess whether we are the best indeed. I think what can save us is if the young players step up.

We’ve 14 points from 18 and Rodri only played 71 minutes, so I’m confident the others can get us close. As I said, if it is only the league, I’m quietly confident. However, I do agree that using the youngsters (Lewis/McAtee/Bobb) will be key to keeping others fresher for longer. We might need to go into the market in the window as well.

Think it will be peps best effort ever if we win it this year
Feels like that pretty much every season for one reason or another- opposition, our own desire, 4 in a row etc.
Rodri is a blow but nobody could field such a talented bench as that one we had today.
Pep is the absolute master at keeping the soup warm then, just as the customer places his order, he brings it perfectly to the boil so it’s piping hot and to everyone’s ultimate satisfaction upon serving.,

No gazpacho then…

Alternatively, we were poor vs Brentford before Rodri came in, and average vs Arsenal and Newcastle without him.

What gives me hope are 3 things: we have wonderful young players who might surprise the league, Arsenal and Liverpool might find it difficult to win more than 85 pts, and we may sign a good midfielder in January.

We squeaked by Newcastle away last season and Brentford at home was tight, too, so not that much change. Failing to beat Arsenal with 10 men hurt, but I think we took a huge psychological fillip from our performance and their negativity. I agree with your assessment of the personnel, but the weeks up to the window are going to be tough. I thought we would have won at a canter last year if we’d shown more composure in the final third, but with no Gundogan and Grealish/de Bruyne out or below par, the young players often snatched at things. If we can settle the midfield and have those three composing the youngsters in the final third, then we should be okay.

Fair comment

I can’t see Arsenal dropping any more points. Or Liverpool.
Absolutely not happening 100%, even without other games where they will both drop points, they have to play each other so it's impossible they both get maximum points.

Also the Dippers and Tarquin s are in Europe and will have many games to come, they don't rotate like Pep, their players will be burnt out come the business end of the season. NFR, no flapping required at this juncture. We may not win the league this season but we're only 15% of the way in, we hopefully have Johnny, Phil and KDB to hit the straps, plus Nathan Ake to return and possibly a new midfielder in January.

I don't give two big ones if we don't win anything this season, surely we're not that entitled, are we?

All I say is after the Villa game last December I was certain we wouldn't win the league. We looked awful in that game. I was totally wrong. Kevin came back we got our act together, and managed to win 10 straight to win the league. The point being it’s September relax a little. We shall see how this goes.

next 3 in PL City-Fulham, Wolves-City, City-Soton

9 points please, any less is shit. we lost to Wolves away last season, but seeing them today vs Liverpool, if we keep a clean sheet we are ok.

still overall surprised the open games some of our rivals face. the amount of times we spend vs teams with 10 them doing 10 men behind the ball vs what Chelsea or Liverpool facing is quite different. committing men forward by some mediocre-weaker PL clubs vs rivals vs the disciplined defending in numbers they show against us is frustrating.

in same period for next 3 there are Liverpool-Chelsea and Arsenal-Liverpool games, thats why we need to win next 3.
pretty sure we are on top if we do that.

Chelsea is a different beast compared to last season, Maresca has a plan unlike Pochettino. early days still, but he can unlock the potential in them if he can add defensive steel too and bit better game control they will take off points from lots of top half clubs. do hope they dont lose at Anfield.

Same thing happens every year, don’t win for a couple of games, then we get the usual “not good enough to win it this year”. What’s tends to happen is we go into overdrive mode early in the new year and power past all the also rans. Rinse and repeat
