Agreed.

Pep and the players had one more week to stay professional, beat the Rags, and they could have paraded the PL trophy and the FA Cup, and then got leathered.

City would have done the double, double, which had never been done before.
I think the pressure that Pep put on them and tbf they put on themselves to win 4 in a row and the mental and physical effort it took to do so absolutely destroyed them. They had nothing left after the West Ham game.

Assuming Villa win both their games v Spurs and Rags... and assuming Newcastle win both their games v Arsenal and Everton, it all hinges on the Forest v Chelsea match

If Forest win.... then 3 points will guarantee top 5

If its a draw... then 2 points will guarantee top 5.... unless Chelsea beat the Rags by 5 or more goals, in which case we'll need 3 points

If Chelsea win... then 4 points will be required

Of course if Villa and/or Newcastle drop points we might need less
Saving this as it’s the simplest explanation I’ve seen.

I don't care whether we are 2nd or 5th to be honest. And I would take the FA Cup and no CL as well. Might be in the minority there but a trophy means so much more than money in the bank for me. I get it might mean we can't buy the best players, but I don't think one year out of it would do much harm considering how much we have pocketed in the past few seasons.
Us not getting in the Champions league would be a financial disaster.
Not purely from the money made for being in the competition, but the loss in sponsorship revenue would inevitably have a negative impact on player acquisition.
After our drab, lacklustre performance on Saturday, Bournemouth is now a much bigger game for the Club, certainly from a financial perspective.

If Rags or Spurs can get a draw at Chelsea or Villa Friday we just need to win next Tuesday and we have made it,but it's a very big if but football's a funny game.7-30 and 8-15 kick offs.

Be a miracle they don't give a shit about the league

I think Villa and Chelsea as a double Friday night at just under evens is a great bet. Not a chance either utd or Spurs will be interested and they’re both shite to start with. We’ll be 6th by the next time we play. At least it’s still in our hands though.

Teams normally want to win their last home game so I think United might get a draw v Chelsea.

Hopefully but absolutely no point in utd risking anyone who’s going to play in the final. So you’ll have a shit 2nd string against a much better team who are desperate for 3 points

Most fans of every club assume their rivals will win their games and that their own team will struggle. It’s human nature and a psychological safety net (that doesn’t work) but it’s rarely true.

One way to catch yourself doing this is to think if you would swap point totals, goal difference and remaining fixtures with all of the rival teams….though even that usually fails too!

Sorry I meant Villa not Chelsea, which is after the final.

Anything from Friday's games is a bonus but no point getting any hopes up. I think we'll be 6th come the Bournemouth game.

We blew it yesterday, typical City! It will be humiliating if United get into the Champions League and we don’t. They have 39 points, we have 65. Insanity prevails.
Uniteds last 2 league games are Chelsea Away and Villa at Home - who both need the points desperately - so Id all but guarantee they finish with 39pts, which in a normal year would likely see you relegated.

This is what PSR and formerly FFP has created. The teams coming up cannot invest and go straight back down….unless you purposely break the rules and hope for the best like Forest.

1996 City got relegated on 38 points, the last time we were in the relegation dog fight with Pearce 42 points were accumulated. United managed to spend over £180 million on transfers last summer, they have a bigger budget than the teams around them and they have seen no upturn in performances from the team. Yeah they changed the manager in November but he should still be getting a tune out of his players. Wolves sacked their manager and we’re in real danger of relegation and they have more points than the rags.

Champions league or no champions league they will be fucked either outcome.

The new normal isn’t the same as the traditional one. It’s been 15 years since a team with 39 or more points has been relegated from the PL.

Fulham have only got 3 points from their last 15 so they arn't in any decent form either. By the time we play them, they will have nothing to play for. By the time we play again, we will have an idea on whats exactly needed. I wouldn't be surprised for Rags, Spurs to pull off a point from somewhere. Rags will also be at home for the final game against Villa, so you never know. Its obvious from Amorims statements that he is concerned more about the PL form and I can see him putting in the effort required in the last game. Its not going to be as easy as people think for the other teams.

Southampton had nothing to play for and look how that went for us. That is the example though where anything can happen to anyone really, beat Bournemouth though and I think we will be ok.
