The Tottenham Thread 12/13

When our turnover gets towards £250 million and we start making money what will be these fans of other clubs moan about then?

We will be a legitimate money making business within 3 more seasons, speculate to accumulate is what MCFC's owners are doing.

nobody at all can then say anything,we will reel in Chelsea and leave them in our slipstream showing who has the best model of how to run a football club with good investment.

Spurs fans are full of excuses. They will come up with some other reason why we are not "doing it the right way".

Exactly this^

After this season we'll be making 1 or 2 signings per year, and they'll be partly funded by players moving the other way. Imagine a couple of seasons with a zero to 20 million net spend on players, rather than 60 to a 100 million which has been the (necessary) expenditure of recent times.

Hart, Richards, Kompany, Clichy, Zab, Lescott, Silva, Nasri, Milner, YaYa, Aguero (and others) are going to be with us for a very long time, so we won't need to keep on spending big. Plus, over the coming years, some of the young players we are signing and nurturing will help to bolster what we already have.

We couldn't be in a better position to flourish in the future if we tried.

The ones that have been moaning will no doubt say we cheated our way into such a position, while blatantly ignoring the fact that most elite clubs had to spend big at some point (often courtesy of a rich benefactor) and the success and growth came later.

The funny thing is that, providing things continue to go well for us of course, I can envisage a situation some 10 or 15 years down the line where City are comfortably self-sufficient yet some of the clubs previously thought of as huge clubs will have to spend way beyond their means in order to bridge the gap. I'm thinking of Liverpool as an example here. Some of their fans lament what we've done but they really should be looking closer to home as to why they've failed to repeat their successes of the 70's and 80's. In particular the stadium issue which has been rumbling on for a couple of decades now. Successive owners of the club have been incredibly short-sighted in terms of expanding or building a new ground.

Any truth of spurs takeover or is it BS as always ?

No idea why sigurdsson chose spurs , i rate liverpool as much as spurs , both will target top 4 this year and are as much likely to finish in it as each other(top 3 of us , rags and chelsea) , he had a chance to work with rodgers which he passed up , truth is its money as it has always been

Why do rate Liverpool's chances as high as ours? We've finished above them three seasons on the trot, and have a better squad imo. You may doubt us because of avb, which is fair enough.

Nobody said we would finish in the top 4 last season either.

Avb is a risk , this season will prove whether he's actually that good as he's made out to be or not , while you overperformed with redknapp , i doubt the same with avb

Agree you have better(not much) squad

In all fairness I feel that it can be argued that Rodgers is just as big a risk as AVB, the difference being that AVB will actually have some money to invest in the squad whereas Rodgers will be stuck with overpriced average players.

In no way did we "overperform" under Redknapp. Looking at the squads of the teams around us we were deserving of fourth, and it can be argued that we should have finished 3rd. Do you really think that we "overperformed" under Redknapp after Christmas? If anything we underperformed.

The table never lies. I am not saying that we are nailed on for a top four place this season, it really depends on the personnel that we bring in. However, we will certainly be there or thereabouts again this season.

Well you don't have Adebayor and if the rumours are true, Modric is likely to leave. I would say that Liverpool's squad is as good as yours, if not better.

Liverpool have better defenders, a much better keeper and arguably superior central midfielders. They also have a forward who, it could be argued, is better than any at your club - Suarez.

I will be amazed if you finish in a CL qualifying place without buying a quality striker.

Don't agree. Rodgers knows the Prem (and English football in general), AVB doesn't -although in all fairness, Chelsea never let him.
If Rodgers takes the dippers to just outside the top 4 it will be seen as an improvement. AVB on the other hand simply must improve on Twitcher, or the unease will set in.

i am saying liverpool have

1. Better goalkeeper
2. Much better defence
3. Tad better central midfield ( lucas , gerrard and co. )
4. Suarez

as i said liverpool and tottenham have comparable squad , and will be unfair to say tottenham have a very superior squad to them

It's all well and good on paper x is better than x but it doesn't always work like that.

Everton finished above liverpool last season and liverpool were 17 points behind spurs.

I keep hearing rawk say they have better squad than united and spurs but they have been way behind for a few years now. I don't buy into this myth about a great squad in all honesty.

When they had the likes of sissoko, hamman, alonso, riera, torres etc I would have held my hands up. I think they're a lot worse than the rafa era, and spurs are a lot stronger post jol.

-- Wed Jul 18, 2012 7:28 pm --

I don't really want adebayor I assume he's still haggling over wages. I think levy can't reach a deal with Madrid over modric yet, psg are still sniffing as well. Be interesting to see what happens in the next few weeks!
