The Tottenham Thread 12/13

As the poster above said, I'd like 2nd place sewn up. Need to beat Wigan tomorrow night to keep the pressure on.

As for 3rd and 4th, I'd certainly rather see Spurs and Chelsea get those spots. One reason is that I'm yet to see a Gooner posting on here, yet we have a fair few Spurs fans (and that's surprising given some of the hatred some posters on here have for Spurs), and Castiel is a good poster as well and the Chelsea fans were good on Sunday - yep, I'm that shallow.

From what I can see, Gooners absolutely hate us - probably comes from some of the shite that Wenger spouts against us.

------------------- Lloris -----------------
Ivanovic -- David Luiz -- Vertonghen -- Cole
--------------Sandro -- Dembele ----------
------- Hazard ----- Mata ----- Bale ------
--------------------- Ba ------------------

That would be my first XI out of Chelsea & Spurs' squads. 6 from Chelsea and 5 from Spurs.

At the start of the season, I'd have expected both Chelsea and Arsenal to finish above Spurs. If that doesn't happen, and Spurs nick a top 4 spot, then fair play to them as far as I'm concered.

We used to have a gooner on here. He's even got a thread in classics.

No we lost and teams took advantage. You're now ahead and are firm favourites. The bookies have you favourites, you have a better and larger squad to cope. So you and arsenal should do it really. Even goal difference effectively puts you a point ahead if it came to that

You've outspent city and have a higher wage bill than united. You should be top 4 and Europa league winners quite comfortably

If only football was played on paper.

Spurs fans should know more than most that throwing cash around does not necessarily lead to success.

Not sure how that is relevant, maybe a subtle dig as usual. our net spend in the past 5 seasons is pretty low whereas it used to be high, if anything we have become tighter than a ducks arse. Stoke have spent more than spurs.

You are a sensitive soul.

Your post indicated that Chelsea should finish higher than Spurs simply because they have spent more. It doesn't always work out like that.

It is not simply a case of money=success and spend more=better than those who spend less. Spurs fans, more than most, can appreciate that as it was THFC flashing the cash around for many years but failing to win a league title, and producing a decent, but far from impressive, return of trophies in the last 50 years. You currently spend more than 80+ other professional clubs in Prem and FA, yet you have barely had an impact on the FA Cup in the last 20 years and have only qualified for the CL on one occasion. Yet somehow, many Spurs fans, and the media, are continually trying to cultivate an image of a club who overachieves and, in some instances, they look down on the successes of City and Chelsea, regarding them as worthless and 'not done the right away'.

There is more to football than just transfer spends. You have to match the wages too. United, Arsenal and Liverpool blew everyone out the window for ages. Apart from Portsmouth and Everton the usual suspects have won the FA cup for the past 20 years. While the media tells us it's a lottery it really isn't anymore. The Wimbledon and Coventry's aren't going to happen again

We were never good to compete with the top dogs. If you really think we should have won a title from United while they were still spending more 15 years ago, then our transfer record now I don't know what to say.

When Keegan took over and spent cash and had a high wage bill did you expect City to challenge for titles and FA cups? I certainly didn't, they were good but not good enough. It needed an Abramovich or Mansour to break up that dominance.

As for spurs, you complain of other boards complaining of city, but you complain of spurs more than anyone. You are constantly having digs about our medal tally in 50 years. It weren't so long ago united fans were doing that to you.

Did they have a banner up this season when you played them? Arsenal fans can't make up who they hate the most these days

I'd have Kaboul over David Luiz but other than that I agree with your team.

I think if we finish above Chelsea the difference will be down to us having a better manager (imo) and an easier run in with fewer midweek games. 5 of their 7 remaining Prem games are Fulham (a), Liverpool (a), United (a), Spurs (h), and Everton (h). Every one of those is difficult and with their games coming every 3 days or less they could conceivably only muster a few points in the rest of the season.

Great result for Spurs tonight, so long as we can capitalise on the two points dropped by both Arsenal & Everton.

A win against City on Sunday will put us right back on track.

Dream on your not going to beat us.Looks like your going to be in that nice europa league again next season. And we will take that nice Gareth Bale off you in the summer.

Reports that Bale wont make our game,a huge loss to your ambitions if thats the case.

I can see him definitely moving if you dont make top 4,although a good offer will see him on his way regardless.

No Bale against us according to the Telegraph. Defoe, Gallas, Lennon are question marks.

I'll be surprised if bale doesn't play unless AVB is writing this game of and he's going to park the bus and hope for a point

If we play like we did against the rags and Chelsea, and I very much hope we do, then I can't see Spurs beating us. So, I do hope we bring our A game.

Going to be a tough game, city are on a great run at the moment. I don't think AVB should rush lennon or bale back if they aren't fit, especially a game where it's going to be hard enough. If arsenal lose at fulham I'm sure he'll start them on the bench if they pass the fitness test

-- Wed Apr 17, 2013 1:17 am --

thats what they say on redcafe too

City v Spurs will be a tough encounter for both of us, however I was surprised to see that Spurs had only won 50% (8 out of 16) of their home matches. In fact they've got the same home record as City have got away from home (won 8, drawn 5, lost 3). Obviously any result is possible but I can't see us losing if I'm being honest. We tend to screw up and lose the games we shouldn't (those 3 away defeats have been against Sunderland, Southampton and Everton, the latter having somewhat of a hoodoo over us) whereas when we face the "big boys" we put in a decent performance. We've won at Old Trafford, won at The Emirates, drawn at Stamford Bridge and drawn at Anfield. I think we'll get a point, but if any of us is going to win the match I think it'll be City.

There don't tend to be a lot of draws between us and Spurs, I can only think of one draw with Spurs in a long time and that was the 0-0 where Joe Hart made about 7 blinding saves. (That and the 81 final, of course) Usually we either win or lose by a single goal margin.

So I'm going for 2-0 to City ;)

So Cardiff City have been promoted. I can't believe we're going to have 3 Welsh teams in the Premier League next season. Cardiff, Swansea and Gareth Bale.
