Re: The Tottenham Thread 13/14 part 2.

Our Premier League matches at Manchester City and at home to Manchester United have been rescheduled due to our involvement in UEFA competition.

Manchester City (A) – now Sunday 24 November KO 1.30pm – Sky Sports

Spurs have two defensive midfielders in Sandro and Capoue, they've not started a single game together yet. Paulinho and Dembélé, whilst being strong and capable and willing to tackle, are not in any way defensive midfielders.

You seem to take the piss out of Andros Townsend, yet the assets he brings to the down are directness, pace and power, the same assets you think Spurs are going to miss dramatically.

What Spurs lacked last season was craft, creativity and intelligent and incisive passing. A Silva type player, basically. Eriksen has been brought in to hopefully fill that void.

Are you saying that Townsend will fill the hole left by Bale?!
Do I think Townsend will score the 26 goals that Bale did last season? No, of course not. That's why Spurs have signed Lamela (15 goals last season), Paulinho (1 goal every 4 games for Corinthians), Soldado (30 goals last season) and Eriksen (13 goals last season).

But you never mentioned anything about missing Bale's goals. You said Spurs are going to miss Bale's directness, pace and power. They aren't, because Townsend will give them Bale's directness, pace and power. Had you said that Spurs are going to miss Bale's fairly prolific long range shots and free kicks and goals in general, I wouldn't have argued as you'd be right.

Townsend won't replace Bales directness, pace or power - he dosnt have 1/4 of Bales ability in those attributes, it's like saying Drogba will be replaced with Carlton Cole.

That makes no sense. Townsend is arguably faster than Bale, for a start. How can Townsend not have 1/4 of Bale's ability to be direct? Seriously, that makes no sense, and I'm assuming you've not really watched Townsend play. Townsend gets the ball, runs at defenders and, more often than not, beats them. He doesn't have the raw strength of Bale yet, sure, but he's not easily knocked off the ball either.

I'm not for one second suggesting that Townsend will replicate or replace Bale's contribution to the team, or even come close. But you are talking crap there tbh.

Europa League doesn't quite have the same ring to it does it? Hopefully you won't get the chance, but I would imagine you'd call it Champions League not UEFA competition!

Spurs did better in the market than City imo

Lamela>Jovetic
Soldado>Negredo
Eriksen>Navas
Paulinho><Fernandinho
Capoue
Chadli
Chiriches

£107M vs £97M

Lamela won't settle - he's too temperamental and has only had one good season.

Soldado is the Spanish Darren Bent - he will have a massive goal draught at some point this season. Negrado is younger, was cheaper, is on less wages and is much much better player as a target man and a goal scorer.

Paulinho - couldn't hack it in Poland. Nuff said.

Eriksen - he really isn't that good, ok movement but he gives the ball away for fun and also passes like a crab (sideways) a lot.

Why do you think no big teams were after any of these players? Either over priced or not good enough.

The fuck is this? o.O

I could imagine reading something like this on Liverpool forum, not here
