I am surprised that nobody has mentioned that doyen of football commentators Alan Greene! ;)
That was Len Martin on 'Grandstand' (if I recall correctly, he was an Aussie..) and John Webster on radio's 'Sports Report' (until James Alexander Gordon took over mid- to late-70s)The man who read the football results on Grandstand. His voice and the Pink final remind me most of football from my childhood.
And when Jimmy was still in nappies it was Raymond Glendenning! Silky authoritative voice- when the BBC reported on the game and not their narrative.Jimmy Hill was at one time
Hugh Johns. Today’s commentator’s it has to be Peter Drury. After reading the tributes to Murray Walker after the sad passing of his death, everyone says he is "the voice" of Formula One - and correctly so that people say that.
Got me thinking........
Which commentator do you associate of being "The Voice" of football (no anti-City bias, just a football question)
Motty??
Barry Davies??
Brian Moore??
Martin Tyler??
Gerald Sindstadt??
David Coleman??
Kenneth Wolstenholme??
Clive Tyldsley??
Anyone else??
For me, Barry Davies is my favourite commentator, but........I would have to say John Motson is the voice
