If you soar with the eagles, you have a long way to fall...

Back in the day, when we sat and watched the likes of deMarcus Beasley and Jamie Pollock, and other such football luminaries, and a raft of has-beens grabbing one last big pay day, there was no expectations from us as fans other that to stay in (or get promoted out of!) the league we were in. To the media, we were benign, harmless, a figure to poke fun at, a guaranteed 6 points for the Sky Big Four.

So now our levels of expectation have risen dramatically. This is serious shit now, were playing with the big boys, no more village idiot, we are sat at the top table, and intend to stay there, and the only way to do that is to win, and win consistently, and to do that you need to buy the best players available at the premium required.

And therein lies a big part of the problem imo, the way we have made it the top, the Sheikhs huge investments mean any slips trips or falls by the club is greeted with howls of derision and bitter rhetoric in the media. This hurts, not least because i love my club like family, and would fight any stranger who has a go at them. i admit, i completely ignore ALL football media for at least three days after we have lost a game...

And in this i think there is an added worry for the clubs long suffering fans; that once again we will do a "typical City" and fuck it all up, the Sheikh will lose interest, get fed up of the media vitriol, and take his investment elsewhere. And once again we will become the village idiot, maybe look to re-sign George Weah, or worse, Steve McMinimum...

I think, on the whole, as things stand, i can just about live with pressure... :-)

Come on mr d you are one of the worst for winding people up and creating rows

not so.
if I wind up at all its when someone seems precious and its ALWAYS in off topic. i.e I never voted for Maggie thatcher in my life......... then again under the previous labour government 3 forms I was working for went to the wall in the same 12 months. people who actually know me know this.

Was that because Labour was in or because you were working for them ?

Nothing wrong with Beasley! Decent player in a team designed to butcher any attacking talent.
