The "which famous person died today" thread

Have we missed this? Jim Fox, part of the Olympic gold medal winning team in the modern pentathlon in 1976, has died.
It was during that contest that Fox unmasked the Russian cheat Boris Onishenko who had a concealed switch in his epee enabling him to register a hit when none had occurred. Fox insisted that Onishenko’s sword was minutely examined and the cheat unmasked. Fox and Onishenko were friends and Fox was so upset he performed badly in the next two disciplines. Britain however mounted a dramatic comeback on the final day and took the gold medal by the slimmest of margins.
Onishenko was sent back to Russia and never heard of again in the West.
RIP Jim Fox.
Never heard of him but interesting story, surprised it wasn't made into a TV drama

Seems we almost missed the passing of Gordon Lightfoot too - my fave was always Daylight Katy - RIP

Wonderful artist and fortunate to see him at Festival Hall many years ago , still performing till the end.

Deserved his own thread so we gave him one currently on page 2.

If you wanna know
why he loves you so
its in his kiss

Night Linda RIP

She had an amazing vocal range and enjoyed a successful career supporting other acts. Much more to her than "rock a doodle doo" and the " kiss" song. Sad news, RIP big girl.

Saw him live in HK about 25yrs ago. Absolutely brilliant show.
I've been catching up on loads of his stuff on Youtube - the Les Patterson stuff isn't just work of a comic genius; he was an acting genius too. Fuckin' hilarious over so many decades. A massive body of work to enjoy - and it's all timeless.
