The "which famous person died today" thread

Albini's death is a huge shock, difficult to get my head around it tbh. One of the most uncompromising people in rock history. If you can, check out Big Black's Pigpile live video - he's playing so hard his fingers are bleeding and his white t shirt is completely stained red by the end of the set. Seeing this bloodstained nerd performing a truly chilling version of the brilliant, horrifying "Jordan Minnesota" is something that stays with you. RIP legend.
I was at this penultimate Big black gig at the Clarendon - brilliant night to say the least!

He'll be sadly missed.

Steve Albini made bands sound as much like they did live as was compatible with selling enough records to get by. PJ Harvey’s ‘Rid of Me’ and the Wedding Present’s ‘Seamonsters’ easily the best stuff either produced. There was just so much space around the massive dynamic range. As witnessed by the Breeders here…

Too young to go, especially for a teetotaller.

A gifted producer, most of his band Big Black's catalogue was way too hardcore for my tastes .... they did do a great cover (literally also copied the cover of the debut Cheap Trick album) of He's A Whore by my beloved Cheap Trick.
(B side was Kraftwerk's The Model ... cover copied again too)

He also, about ten years or more ago, got CT into a studio and re recorded their whole second album In Color, which while a classic was always lacking in production quality. The results were phenomenal, but to date it hasn't been released. Calls on CT forums and pages that it would be a fitting tribute to Albini if it was now released.

Susan Backlinie who played Chrissie Watkins in the classic JAWS Movie, passed away today. Her opening scene in the movie was and still is iconic.
