The "which famous person died today" thread

I knew Andy Kershaw around 1978-9, when he used to live in Whitworth and spent most of the time hanging around in Saddleworth with my mates, Then he moved to Leeds Uni, I can remember going to a couple of parties at his flat, he was always a good laugh. He has had his ups and downs, his book "No off switch" is a great read.

RIP.
What was the name of the boozer in Whitworth that looked Swiss/German, used to go for a drink in there when I worked in Rochdale, going back 40 plus years.

Had a good few jars n dinner in there once, around 1989/90 if its the same one i'm thinking of, The Alpine if memory serves me right?

Loads of watering holes up n down that road yesteryear, wonder what it looks like nowadays.

That’s the one, the Alpine, served a really nice cold lager in there, great in the summer.

Like you I used to go in a few pubs up there. Also queued up behind that fat nonce Cyril Smith for a pie at a bakers on Whitworth Road, seeing as he’s dead I’m not going off thread :-).

I missed Andy Kershaw dying in the news and have only just seen it on here. Sad news indeed. I remember when I was a kid and getting in about tea time and Live aid was in full flow. He was interviewing people in the crowd whilst getting half crushed to death. He always come across as a good guy with a great Rochy accent. RIP.

Not sure if you lot had this over there (I think you had a knock-off), but Storage Wars was the only reality TV show I ever watched, and the most American of shows in both good and bad ways. One of the leads, Darrell Sheets — the best and most interesting guy on the show — killed himself at 67, though apparently circumstances around his death are suspicious. RIP to a unique character.

Yes, Mrs Vienna and I watched a lot of episodes of Storage Wars.

Darrell was one of my favourite characters in the show, which was both entertaining and informative / educational.

R. I. P. Darrell.

I remember that locker he won with all the collectables in it and another with the artwork. Made a fortune.
