The "which famous person died today" thread

A genuine radio legend.

I remember Johnnie on Radio One in the early '70s, and I used to enjoy him on the way home from work, when he was on Radio Two"s drive time show in the mid-2000s.

I’m not old enough to remember it, nor was I in the right area of the country to witness it, but I’ve heard recordings of him encouraging his listeners to Radio Caroline to drive down to the sea front in one of the towns in the south-east at night and flash their headlights on his command.

He said it gave him a tremendous feeling of power.

R. I. P. Johnnie.

Sad news even if not unexpected bearing in mind his health. Only a few weeks ago when his final show went out. Hope he's found another station up there. RIP Sir
One of the original pirate radio jocks. Will be sadly missed. Listened to Sounds of the 70's religiously for years and IMHO the best radio show of the week. Whispering Bob's tribute to him on the programme today was very fitting. RIP Johnnie Walker - a GREAT radio presenter.

I'll have to give that a listen.
Despite Tony Blackburn being a bit of a tit, he's still a a legend. Which will just leave him, Bob Harris, and Paul Gambacinni as the old guard with an honourable mention to Ken Bruce.

The rest are just chatterboxes
