The "which famous person died today" thread

I'd seen the news on the soulful detroit forums and didn't think many on on bluemoon would know her. Had to reply when I saw your post then.
Lots of old Soulboys on Bluemoon. Don't forget that Northern Soul (mainly Chicago Soul) is so called because it became big in the North of England in the 1960s , particularly in Manchester and the surrounding area.
My own soul credentials go back to 1970, and encompass Northern, Tamla Motown, Philly and disco.
When I was first courting my wife in early 1979, one of our little pleasures was listening to the Chic album -
"C'est Chic " in my bedroom on a Sunday morning before going for a drink in the pub.

I'm 60 in April so probably from same viewpoint mate. Chic/Nile are heroes to me even today and finally caught him live a few years back. You must've heard Bonnie's two motown cover albums (red/purple) then? Love the stuff you're mentioning. Also, Prelude/Salsoul/West End 80s labels. Even some of the Canadian Hi Nrg of the time. One of the plus sides of being a bit long in the tooth is the music I've had getting there. Sadly, we keep losing our heroes though, Anita being the latest

Yep , I try to enjoy life as much as poss . But yesterday’s match didn’t help lol

as I said yesterday we have been here before and won it - we ain't gifting the PL Title to anyone under Pep and we still have to play Arsenal twice so I remain confident. If Arsenal prevail then they will have won it through graft and they should get our respect.

when I see this news it shits me up as I am 62 this year............... makes it all so real.........
I was 60 in June 2016 and a few celebs of a similar age died around Christmas time that year. The two who I particularly remember were Joni Sledge( Sister Sledge ) and Carrie Fisher .
It made me evaluate my life, particularly my work life, and I had a pension review and an appointment with a financial advisor within a month.
And I was working part time by March 2017 and then fully retired a couple of years later.
Life is too short to spend it grafting well into your 60s.

sacked it off at 60 as pension circumstances allowed me to and I wholeheartedly agree - my Dad puts it into perspective for me - life is often sad - do you wanna be sad at home or do you wanna be sad doing a job you hate?
At home with your loved ones is not sad though so........ we win

100% agree with your post pal.
I was working outside all day (as a vehicle appraiser at BCA on Hyde Road) and the cold winter weather was beginning to get to me , particularly my ankles and knee joints. Looking back now, I wish I had retired altogether at age 60 ,instead of just going part time.
But it just seemed too much to go from 40 hours a week to zero in one go.

I was fortunate as I had a dry run a couple of years previously - I took redundancy and got enough dosh to pay off the mortgage - daughter was at Uni and having a bad time so I took a year out and most Fridays I went to Carlisle from North Yorkshire to pick her up and took her back Sunday ( battered a Picasso I had which I had insured for 12k miles a year and did 36k ooopppss ) but I had that bit of time out to prepare. So I went back freelancing for about 3 years ( hard to tell coz there were some Covid down times ) then a change of circs in the job coincided with letters from 2 pensions saying " hey are you interested in having some money??" made the decision pretty fucking easy tbh I had worked solid from age 17 - 43 years is enough for anyone. I still get e-mails today from from agencies and employers asking me to apply for jobs - nope - their fault they didn't recruit and train in times of plenty I have no interest in going back
