The youth players that played today

I'm not sure what people were actually from Barker when he's coming on at 3-1 down to make his debut against arguably the best full back in the entire league. Not to mention having Kolarov behind him who didn't appear to want to pass to him. Maybe if Pellegrini had given him a few sub appearances in lesser games before now then he might have been a bit sharper.

Going off body language??capable ously? At which University did you study football body language?

What's your coaching role at City if you know his attitude is wrong?

Did Zidane ever look like he was playing to capacity? What about Matt Le Tissier? Glenn Hoddle? Chriss Waddle?

I take from your comments you'd like everyone to play like Paul Dickov?
Body language is just that, football is no different.Ive seen what Barker is capable of,when he applies himself.....so,its a logical conclusion,imo.....that its his attitude that needs the work. And yes,a little bit of what made Dickov tick would do no harm at all.

That's very a good point.

Personally I'm not a great fan of loan deals, as you have no control over how the loan team play, so I'd like some to be kept around and integrated, but I understand that we can't keep them all here just playing for the EDS.
I agree to an extent, but I think loaning to English clubs is the main problem.

We've loaned players to Championship, League 1&2 and also Premier League (Guidetti) and none have got the player anywhere near our first team.

But you look at Denayer at Celtic, learning that winning mentality (hopefully Roberts too), Ntcham, Jack Byrne, Guidetti at Feyenoord, Fofana I think, other players in Holland and elsewhere in Europe... and there seems to be quite a lot gained.

I attribute this to the fact that the English football club/fan mentality is too cynical, pessimistic and too short-term focussed/impatient - look at Barker who had a great debut and was then thrown on the scrap heap at Rotheram! Whereas on the continent fans seem to be much more receptive to young players learning their trade, and appreciate them a lot more. And then you have the different football cultures that are often a better reflection of the game City are trying to play.

So in short I wouldn't loan to English teams if the player has first team potential - hopefully the club are getting better at this and building good links with Celtic, Girona, Cambuur etc.

I agree, I don't see ant point loaning to say Sunderland (no disrespect to them), but in English football, the seriously stupid money difference between PL and championship, makes it impossible at either end to trust youngsters if they have a bad game or two.

I think criticism of Barker from this one game is very unfair. He came on at 3-1 down playing against the best full back in the league last season imo in Azpilicueta for his first team debut. You can accept him being a bit shaky and unconfident, and I don't think Kolarov supported him well at all really, can tell he needed a bit of encouragement etc. He showed glimpses of what he can do though, and I think he needs more time before we judge him. As do all of the young lads out today. The Villa game is a pivotal one where I think they should be introduced, especially it being at the end of this busy schedule where I presume we will still be short on first teamers. With Pep coming in though, the future looks bright, just 3 more months to endure.

What happens now? Will any get a shot in the first team? Faupala looked suited to prem football and manu garcia, although played out of position was great. Adarabioyo looked mustard too for me he should play ahead of demichelis from now on.
Totally agree with you on adarabioyo..amazing performance.

Can I ask what you're a guru in Sam because I'm not sure you're a guru in football with comments like that.
How can Celina be abysmal when he hardly saw any of the ball to be abysmal as we were on the back foot so much?
I know football is all about opinions pal, but Barker abysmal? Wow, just wow. For me he looked a threat when he came on. Granted end product wasn't there but he was only on the pitch for 15 mins, not sure if you expected a Messi like performance from him?

Yes it is all about opinion but Barker was terrible as was Celine before him. To say anything else is quite honestly deluded. At this level; composure is essential and they had none. Must we hype up every player ala Guidetti, Razak, Weiss? There was a winger in between that ended up at Doncaster? They are not going to make it.

I was disappointed with Celina and Barker but for different reasons. The former simply couldnt get into the game,he rarely saw the ball so its difficult to judge him on that basis. As for Barker,he frustrates me,annoys me even......he has talent in abundance but his attitude is all wrong,he rarely looks like he is playing to his capacity and quite often looks like he isnt that arsed,in fact, going off his body language,im not even sure he enjoys the game.
As for the others, all impressed to varying degrees and certainly dont look out of place at this level.

I don't understand people slagging off Barkers' attitude, he sprinted back the full length of the pitch to get back and help Zabaleta out in the last few minutes when Chelsea had a 2 vs 1 after breaking from our corner.

The lad did well, very well in fact, not everything he tried came off but he was up against a full back widely regarded as the best defensive fullback in the league. The effort was there, he had the confidence to have a go, not sure what else he could have done personally. Kolarov had 4/5 chances to put him through or certainly give him the ball when he was 1 vs 1 with the fullback and Kolarov did his usual "Hollywood" bullshit.
