Thiago started as a Iniesta-esque player. But it's clear that he plays much better from deep. The only issue is that he's not a very big lad. Scholes for example, has one of the biggest frames in midfield. I think that if the Rags plan on buying Thiago and playin him alongside Carrick, they are going to get walked on by stronger teams. Midfields of Ramires, Boateng and Yaya and Fernandhino will dominate them. Technically awesome, yes. But he isn't even as athletic as Cleverley.
He'd be an awesome buy if you put him next to a bulldog, but United don't own one.
