where have all the headlines gone about putting bids in for cavani(£50M)..bale(£60M)..Ronaldo(£70M)...fabregas(£25M)???

oh that`s right,it was complete and utter bollocks written and made up by the rag arse licking press....
and this isn`t going to happen either, besides phil "Duncan Edwards" jones, zidane cleverly and kagawa beckenbaur will need some budging I tell ya!!

I await the next update of alcantara signing/has signed/signs Friday/has signed/all done and dusted/will sign tomorrow/signed last week/on his way to sign......etc....

Still think he'll go to United, it's just complicated. A United blogger said there are three options:

A) Thiago buys out his contract, MUFC pays release fee on his behalf and is now subject to income tax. (Total fee: up to 40m)

B) MUFC triggers the buyout clause and most likely subject to VAT. (Total fee: up to 25m euros due to parties involved)

C) MUFC & Barca negotiate a fee to agree on. (Total fee: could be between 18-24m euros depending on negotiations)

I don't understand the problem here. If the buyout clause is subject to Spanish VAT (which would, in itself, be slightly odd, but is possible), United should be able to reclaim that VAT: they are, I would guess, a fully-taxable (or nearly fully taxable) business, and what's more, should be able to reclaim the VAT under the procedure in the directive. That can take a while (6 months?) but it's only a cash flow cost for them.

In short, what's the problem with Option B? The only snag I could think of is if there's some funny VAT treatment in Spain that means they couldn't recover the VAT - I'd have thought that's unlikely, though, so am a bit mystified if that's what is holding this up

Well B certainly looks like the only viable option - If Thiago was on the open market he'd almost certainly go for more than 18m, but he's not worth 40m either. If you're willing to take a punt on him becoming the next Xavi at 18m though, you're probably going to buy him for 25m.

I still don't think Moyes would have a clue how to utilise a player like him though. Unless they're going to start going 4-3-3 all of a sudden I'd imagine he'll get trashed in a midfield 2. Carrick had a great season but he can't do everything on his own.

Edit: And what happens to Zidane Cleverly? Still not had that one answered.
