Things that terrified you as a kid

Rabies scared me I was always checking the dog wasn't foaming at the mouth, he didn't appreciate it.

I was frightened of Parrots too. There's a photo of me and my Brother at a zoo stood next to some Parrots and I look terrified. My Parents think the pic is hysterical! Charming.

Thunder and lightening.Me Mum was and still is a nervous wreck and will actually hide in a dark room until its finally passed.
As a kid in the 1950`s,she had the front and back door open, covered all mirrors and literally had us cowering with her under the stairs. Its wasn`t until our next door neighbour realised how my Mum had frightened us with stories and fear, that she took my hand and asked me to watch the lightening at the window with her.
I was 10 years of age and thankfully my panic disappeared, but for years it was traumatic.

This from Look and Learn in the 1970s.

Why the FUCK did they sit a load of infants down in the assembly hall and play this creepy shit? Teachers were messed up back then.

They'd probably fought in WW2 or been through the blitz, so this was a bit of harmless fun or the little ones.

"He was tall, thin and wearing a mac". That alone would get him on an offenders list these days.

I remember when i was a kid of about 6 years old being chased down a flight of stairs by a transvestite. He had an accident with petrol and his face was badly disfigured so he'd dress up in womens clothes and makeup to try and hide his burned face. We used to play knock a door run, and i was the youngest and the slowest, and i remember him chasing us down some steps in a block of flats. I was that scared that i actually shat my pants!

I had a poster of Lou Ferigno as the Hulk on my wall that I'd begged my folks to get me, my Dad had to take it down on the first night as it scared the crap out of me.

I also saw a clip of An American Werewolf in London (the first changing scene) on tv when I was about 6, that stayed with me for years, I was truly terrified.
