In those days, English coaches did little work with the ball, believing it was best to leave the players ”hungry” for it. Bonkers: “Ok lads, you are footballers, so we will train by running up and down the stand. You can kick the ball on Saturday.”Teams coming out and just kicking a single ball around in the warm-up, taking turns to shoot at the keeper.
Unbelievable but true. It was the norm when I first went to a game (I go back a long way).
