Congratulations Damocles!
It's grown and changed over the last few years I prefer the term matured like a fine wine, it's huge forum now with many thousands of members many who post little but read the forum everyday for many people it's the go to place for City news and opinion (and that's one of the reasons we don't allow porn to be posted, because many people view the forum at work and the forum would be blocked by web filters)
On the whole the forum is self moderating and has settled at a level where nearly everyone is comfortable , we just do the background jobs that hopefully make your viewing of the forum
I hold my hands up to the locking of the Derby day thread, with hindsight perhaps it was not the best decision I have ever made I am pretty much one game at a time kind of guy and I let that influence my decision.
On a final note we are always open to suggestions and criticism, after all you make the forum we just manage it

Congratulations Damocles, the sword has now fallen and you will be able to moderate during the night as you rock the bairn to sleep!! Multi-tasking will become second nature but there is no feeling in the world like bringing a new person into the world. :-) Every happiness to you and your family.
Ominously waits for BlueTangerine's appearance... :)
I can't see any reason why there shouldn't be a pre-match derby thread, so that's been unlocked now.
We started the policy of merging related threads as users complained that there were too many duplicate topics, and that it was making the board hard to read.
If people feel that we've gone too far the other way though, then obviously we'll review it. Contrary to what certain people think, we're not on a power trip - we're just trying to make decisions for the good of the forum.
Personally, I think there is a valid argument that merging threads is perhaps stifling discussion. Some of the bigger threads (like the player ones, FFP, media bias, United etc) are getting a bit unwieldy and hard to follow.
We'll try relaxing things over the coming weeks, and merging less, and see how it goes.
Sadly most of the threads now in the Forum are player topic ones. Just a place for posters to slag players off
