"Those were the days my friend" song

m27, BTH, Soulboy will remember this.

Some lad once kept stats over a whole season of our songs at games and gave the results to a fanzine.

Then he listed them all - i think there were over 100.

I seem to remember he even had stats - this was sung x times per game etc.

Deeply sad of course, but I enjpyed it...

If I remember correctly, the "lad" was Steve Kay of mcfcstats fame.

Steve was big on Stats and this was typical of him!

I think the results ended up on BTH... but some back issues of City 'til I Cry! also did numerous pages on City songs, and i dare say about 100 songs were recorded in print.

One was the infamous "Could you go another Stella Georgie Best"... which ran into about 20 verses!

We have a great tradition of songs, so it's a shame that we seem to have only about four nowadays!

Fuck... I'm sounding like a right old git now!

anyone rember standing in the new northstand and claping to the tune of carwash it echoed all over the staudium also ohh rodney rodney rodney marsh, to the tune of son of my father.

Yep, remember the clapping to carwash, didn't we also add "BLUES" in there at the right moment, go on try it, I just did, the Doris just looked at me and rolled her eyes though "you big kid"

ASlso remember the continuous clapping without the "City" in the middle, fuck it I can't write it down, it was just clapping, good though when it rolled accross the kippax.

I was born on the Kippax Street
I was born on the Kippax Street
Boots are made for booting
Trains are made to wreck
If a see a united fan
I'll break his fuckin neck

Oh I was born......

You're right it's a great thread this.

like the fella said there are loads more but they aren't for here.

As someone who was on the Kippax from 1969 onwards (and am now in 111) it wa definitly :
' the leader of our TEE -EAM' - at soem point (dunno when) it changed to leader of Man City
- as an old fart I still sing 'leader of our team' peopel either dont notice or think I;m pissed - they are usually correct.................

You missed 4 more rodneys out but that was a special time get 3 0 up and Rodney and Buzzer took the piss out of fullbacks nutmeging them near the corner flag then going back to do it again

I heard of a song that had the line "they said City couldn't play" . In the seventies I met a guy on the train to a match with a tattoo that showed a skull with an axe going in to it with the words "He said City couldn't play" around it . Does anyone know anything about this song - I think it comes from a long time ago .

to the tune of 'Ole Smokey'. This is late 60's.. united sang this as well....

I stood on the kippax, where everyone goes,
along came a red bastard, so I broken his nose.

Along came a copper and asked me my name,
but all I replied him, was a bicycle chain.

The judge said sit down boy, and wipe up your tears,
you're going away for, a term of three years.

There's bars on the windows, there's bars on the doors,
there's bars on the ceilings and bars on the floors

anybody know how this finishes?

Same tune is this one - am too young (just) to remember it myself but guys singing it on train home from a game last season (am not sure about the last line)

"On top of all england now stand the sky blues
who we will follow, if win or we lose
for we are the kippax and when we all cheer
it sounds just like music to Joe Mercer's ears
so come and join us cos we're here to stay
so on with the sky blues and as we all say"

'Gerry Gow is going get you'
'Monday, Tuesday who the f**k are Wednesday'
'He's here, he's there he's every f*****g where Tommy Booth'
'You're going home by combine harvester'
'I can't read and I can't write but I can drive a tractor'
'Oh I do like to be beside the seaside'

Is there a reason why we only have about 3 songs these days?

I referred to this song earlier in the thread.

It predates any song discussed on here by decades.

There is a piece of footage around, maybe on Youtube, showing the crowds waiting back in Manchester to greet City's cup winning team of, I think, 1934. It focusses on a group of women singing this song. I posted about it at the time on Bluemoon. I'll have a dig round.

I remember the day it got its first airing... away at Norwich, we won 2-0 with goals from Royle and Kidd, both in the last 5 minutes.

Oh happy days.

First time I heard it too.

and me ..... also got a clip round the ear of Helen for delaying the coach after a bit of fisticuffs with a goofy Norwich fan! Happy Days!
Was taken from the theme tune to "The Vikings" with Tony Curtis & Kirk Douglas starriing

Whoa Happy Days (oh happy days),Whoa Happy Days (oh happy days)
UNited have gone (UNited have gone), and City have won (and City have won)

... one for the future hopefully!
