Those working from home

I chuckle when every single person who works from home says they do more work and achieve more results. I wonder who assesses the figures? Every one I know who works from home are taking the piss and our neighbour across the road is always out on his bicycle doing 30 mile bike rides

If you need someone to assess how much you do and can't do it yourself, you have bigger problems than whether to work at home or in the office.

Royal you, rather than you specifically.

That's my experience of it aswell also we are losing years of experience that would get passed on with normal office interaction.

That, there is a point. Needs a bit of effort to overcome that.

If you have plenty of definition to what is expected of you, or you have an almost defined workload with deadlines etc then I've no issue at all with people that 'take the piss'

For example, I know there are people at our place that take much longer to get certain things done than I do, and I've always been given pretty good feedback.

So the question is, are you paid for your time or for your output? The problem in this country is there is an inherent issue with presenteeism where working longer hours surely means working harder?

I've always seen it the complete opposite way, I'd be asking questions of those that are having to work much longer to get the work done, than those that are achieving and perhaps bending the rules slightly!

My old boss hit the nail on the head, he always encouraged people to work smarter not harder, then when that took hold, he wanted smarter AND harder, twat

We've taken on more and still not up to much. Complaints made about our new manager and they say he's quite within his rights to make decisions he's made. Moved only girl in team to desk closer to his, when she asked why I've sat here for years 'because I can'. She's now next to a window with draught and we've had to log a ticket with maintenance to get it and frame replaced. Only last week we asked could she move away to old desk until window replaced and he said no. Made her come into office during bus strike (her only means via public transport). She had to waken her kids and put them in car so her husband could give her lift. Same day there was train strike and a guy who can also get underground was told it was ok to work from home. Similar with me, I asked could I work from home as going on holiday that evening and would make things easier going to airport with no 90 minutes commute home to collect cases. The other guy asked week after me and he was allowed. Got loads more similar stories

Perhaps he’s working unsociable hours and doing his exercise while he can?
