Those working from home

We've taken on more and still not up to much. Complaints made about our new manager and they say he's quite within his rights to make decisions he's made. Moved only girl in team to desk closer to his, when she asked why I've sat here for years 'because I can'. She's now next to a window with draught and we've had to log a ticket with maintenance to get it and frame replaced. Only last week we asked could she move away to old desk until window replaced and he said no. Made her come into office during bus strike (her only means via public transport). She had to waken her kids and put them in car so her husband could give her lift. Same day there was train strike and a guy who can also get underground was told it was ok to work from home. Similar with me, I asked could I work from home as going on holiday that evening and would make things easier going to airport with no 90 minutes commute home to collect cases. The other guy asked week after me and he was allowed. Got loads more similar stories

Do you work in UK mate? That boss sounds like a chopper, definitely overcompensating for a lack of something, maybe attention at home or a manhood issue.

In scenarios like your female colleague above, she should have wholeheartedly been allowed to work at home. She has clearly been constantly devalued. Eventually she will down tools and move on for her own sake.

My honest feeling is people should be in the office, with a clear line of understanding and communication between employee and employer about other commitments. Like if you have more important things like childcare, your start time or WFH time should be adjusted within reason. Or say tomorrow night I'm driving up to Newcastle for the game, so I'll start work a bit earlier from home without the commute, then leave at 4 ish.

Young staff especially should be in the office learning their trade, having instant 1 to 1 support where required, and learning how to have sometimes difficult conversations face to face. We've had two very young office managers start at ours, replacing a more experienced woman. The latter used to travel in every day via public transport and was very dependable. These 2 haven't even passed probation and just want to sit at home in pyjamas from what I've overheard. At times we have been left without admin staff for a few days even. One in particular is very nervous and childlike, which clearly isn't going to improve unless you come into work head on and learn to be an adult.

I chuckle when every single person who works from home says they do more work and achieve more results. I wonder who assesses the figures? Every one I know who works from home are taking the piss and our neighbour across the road is always out on his bicycle doing 30 mile bike rides
My missus has peaks and troughs, in the troughs she does the house work, at work she’d probably just chat shit others but most of the time she’s busy and she doesnt even get up for a break, I have a go at her, saying she could go for a 20 min walk with the dog at least.

Hands up if you’ve logged on this morning and are now eating your breakfast and watching the telly :-) if you’re back from the school run obviously
As apposed to having to rely on someone else to do that run and the stress of sorting that out getting into work, probably not eating breakfast and then putting a radio on at work! If they are doing what you say are happier and just as productive in sure it’s better, I’m sure if you were slacking your boss would want a word though?

gone in office today, wi fi and emails completly down. lifts out of use. 1 and a half travel. £30. for what ?

could be at home working.

My wife being asked to return to the office a few days a week now..done well to navigate 3 years of it without going into the office. However it's totally fucking up childcare and might mean working FT from home is part time in office. Her work have KO'D possibility of WFH permanently. Feel like I'm one of the last men standing.. anyone else still WFH 100%?
Yes 100% WFH

Has anyone working from home got a bit frisky with the other half and “pounded snatch” while meant to be working?

Getting paid to get Jiggy Jiggy must be the greatest feeling ever!

Bloody pervs ;-)

Yea in UK (just outside London mate). He certainly seems to make different decisions and has his favourite (which really stands out when only in team of 5)

I think balance is important.

My old company forced us all in full time and a load of people left as a result. I left for that reason, and many others! Now I have to do the school drop off/pick up on a Monday and Tuesday. They go into clubs so it means I still get in the office for 8.30 and have to leave at about 4.45pm so it's a decent enough day but I could do 8-5.15 at home if I chose to. I'm only 20 mins drive from the office so tend to go in 4 days of the week and spend one at home.

When I'm in the office I spend a good amount of time chatting nonsense to people and not working, when I'm home I tend to hide away and crack on with things. I don't think I work any less. Some days in the office I'll do very little because of meetings/chatting. But the fact I can work from home and there's that flexibility means I'm happy to work where I do and remain motivated.

Some people I know have taken the piss a bit. The team secretary at my previous job, before they forced people back in, was working at home one day a week with her 3 year old at home. That's just not possible. She was taking the piss and he should have been in nursery.

But I don't have another option in terms of getting the kids to/from school a couple of days a week. My wife has a much longer commute and I think getting in for the times I do is okay, or I could wfh and extend the day. My company are fine with it and I work hard for them and stay late as and when I can/need to so it's working out.

I would agree, for younger people entering the industry it's important they go in to get the support they need but I equally would provide them with that flexibility.

Fundamentally I'm just a believer that if the job is getting done and done well then I don't really have a problem with what hours people work or where they work them. Some people can work smarter than others too.
