I think Danamy is making the totally valid point that, whilst it's very likely, it is not set in stone that Mancini will be the manager next year. If we balls the season up and alternatives present themselves, or even if he falls out with the powers that be and moves on, then it isn't inconcievable we would have a new manager.

These are the facts as I see them. I am not saying we "will" or "should" have a new manager, I'm just agreeing that there's a chance we might, however small. And this has to be part of ADUG's decision making process, especially having been stung with the Hughes dead wood.

Man City's stadium may blow up with the entire squad and fanbase in it. We should prepare for this eventuality.

No, you don't prepare for the evantuality of something which has a 0.0000000001% chance of happening. But you do plan for the possibility of something which has a much higher chance of happening, or you are an idiot.

I thought you claimed to think scientifically?

And I thought you'd given up with us, but here you are again

I don't think anyone is advocating an overhaul of the squad in Jan, merely that a couple of quality additions would help cement our title charge.

Let's be honest, De Rossi and either a winger or a centre half would add much needed balance to our squad.

Even if Bob wasn't here next year, which I view as highly unlikely, I'm sure it wouldn't be categorised as deadwood that needed to be shifted.

Bob's frustration is that he is being hamstrung by our failure to shift players that he's never wanted and weren't signed under his watch.

Pretty understandable imo.

I agree Rammy. But I think we need to be signing world class players now. Not many of them available in January.

De Rossi would be in the world class category and if say we signed Samba I'd certainly say he's better than Kolo, Lescott and Savic.

I agree that the signing of a class winger would be difficult in Jan.

Your life is great! It will never end! You are the man that other men want to be! Women fall at your feet!

That will be £3.50 please.

Turns out that it's harder to be contrary on Twitter than it is here.

So you don't want that discussion then. That's understandable.

That's the point I was trying to make in the OP. It's not as if there's major surgery required.

The De Rossi situation is the most confounding one for me. If there was even a small chance that he'd come here this month, regardless of wages, I'd have him in simply because he's world class. Him and Yaya would be a formidable partnership. However I get the impression our interest will simply ensure he gets the deal he wants.

I know we tried to sign Christian Erikson in the summer .... he's another one who I'm surprised we've not looked at this Jan.

Bottom line for me remains that if the manager wants a couple more bodies, knows who they are, thinks he can get them, the club should back him.

Enjoyed reading the debate over the last few pages. Nice to see a thread that doesn't turn into WW3 when the kids log on. Looking at the success/or not as might be the case with signings in January i think it pretty prudent of the club to keep the wallet in the back pocket. As much as i sympathise with Bobbys position the feeling was we had a squad strong enough to achieve our goals for this season. The suspension of Vinny and the injury to Micah can't be planned for, but ultimately they are relatively short term problems that don't require a long term solution. Another 5/6 months of planning and executing the ins and outs should put us in a good position to attract the 2/3 world class players to enhance our champions league prospects.

Absolutely mate, was on phone so couldn't refer to your OP but had a feeling my post was along those lines, it's typical that a thread can meander off track away from the original point that you quite validly rose.

I had a feeling that Herman would hamper us this window and said as such to Tolm weeks ago, him and the snake know full well we wanted shut early doors and were bound to do their best to fuck our plans up - it just irritates me that we take this way of working at board level, surely we should have made plans to plug the deficiencies in the squad whilst working on getting the deadwood out rather than waiting for outgoings to happen first.

As I said, I can understand Bob's frustrations as I'd be extremely surprised if he'd been told by the board, prior to Jan, that he wouldn't be allowed to bring anyone in.
