Tino Livramento

Sometimes you’ve got to overpay for the last piece of the jigsaw
Agreed but I can't see Livramento at 80 mil pounds being one of those times. Keep in mind that 80 mil or more is something Newcastle threw out there as a way of killing our interest. We never once pretended to be amenable to those figures.

Everyone’s definition of world class is different in the same way “big club” is meaningless.

My meaningless definition of World Class is a player that is in the top 2 in the world at their usual position. So for me personally Livramento is not even close.

This!!11

FFS We have people posting in the Erling thread how he's not world class, how he doesn't fit the team, we should sell him and upgrade to <insert name>

So if you ain’t top 2 you ain’t world class?
So if KDB, Sneijder, Kaka and Totti played at the same time only two of them would be world class?

You can be world class in different aspects of your game. Livramento is world class in 1v1 defending, best right back in the league last season and the season before in 1v1 defending locking down wingers. He's not in the attack department but at 1v1 defending he is.
OK but that doesn't make him an 80 mil pound player. He's a very good up and coming young player. 50 mil would be more than equitable. Newcastle originally set the starting price at 80 million knowing City nor anyone else would pursue him at that price. Fair play to them. We move on...

May as well buy Wan Bissaka

LOL, Totti, Sneijder, and Kaka did play at the same time along with a handful of other world class players. There's no limit at any position at any given time. I will say when looking at central midfielders who literally dictate games for their sides there will always be more world class footballers. It comes with the territory of having the goods to play in that role.

As far as Livramento goes I can't see any metric in which he'd be considered anywhere near world class at this time. Doesn't mean we shouldn't take him. If he was available at a non-extortionist price and Newcastle were amenable to it I'd sign him today.

To me it means, they could play for any team in the world and he definitely can't

Mine is different too. I think there can be 30 world class players in one position and Zero or 1 at another.

ITs very subjective for me. I te d to also find more world class player in the Attacking areas than on defense

Vanderson, Nunes, Hakimi, Santos and Livramento.

Impressed with Vanderson's metrics. Stacks up against Hakimi's. Livramento arguably the worst on the list, by some distance.
Is he not also the youngest by some distance? I wont put too much stock into him currently being the weakest

like 18 months younger than Vanderson
I see Thiago Santos is also younger. Fair enough. I still think they all have very good potential ( the 3 young ones especially)..i don't think anyone should downgrade Tino too much for being statistically inferior. Some of that is a function of team play style and level of competition.
