Tokyo 2020 Olympics/Paralympics

I don't really see the point of the race at the Olympics, it's a mess, like all the mixed swimming/triathlon - I don't see how it has merit.

The 400m runners have a relay and the individual to go, so they'll be hoping to have got through without giving them an additional race.
It makes a mockery of the female athletes.

Over the years, Athletics has been the only sport where I’ve happily sat and watched the women’s competitions. These mixed relays just make me think “what’s the point?!” like I do with women’s tennis and football*, and make me not bother watching them.

(*although I did watch today’s GB game)

It's a matter of time, financially makes sense given the interest there would be from countries that are otherwise indifferent to the Olympics like India.

It's probably a bit of an oddity that it isn't in the Olympics really. When you think of the most popular sports it's one of the ones that stands out as missng.

- Football X
- Rugby X
- Basketball X
- Tennis X
- Golf X
- Ice Hockey X
- Boxing X

Sports that are big that aren't in the Olympics.

- MMA
- Cricket
- Motorsport (Imagine a heptathlon of Motorsport.. Circuit race, oval race, drag race, rally stage, rally cross, kart race, street race etc... I'd love that but I'm not sure it's really an Olympic event!)

Cricket would be the most obvious to add out of those.

World’s Strongest Man should be strict on PEDs and in the Olympics, for me. I’ve always loved WSM.

Maybe Cross Fit n’all.

I mean, these athletes in these two disciplines go through some incredible training and performances, they hold world records in a number of lifts…

yet did anyone see that Olympics Skateboarding earlier this week? They slid down one handrail and got marked on it and given medals! If that’s in the Olympics, get the fucking darts and snooker in there n’all, it was proper shit that skateboarding!

I'm pretty sure this is tongue in cheek but BMX racing takes a shit load of skill.
I agree totally but it does look a bit like they’ve all taken their kids bikes out for a ride. I understand the geometry for free styling but it looks odd in races.

I know what you mean. It was the norm for me until I got a mountain bike and now I feel like I couldn't ride one again.

I was always shit at it but a couple of my mates were brilliant. Maybe that's why I appreciate the skill.

That sounds terrible. I thought skateboarding would be like those Tony Hawk games where you have a time limit to do a load of tricks in a half pipe, grind rails, jumps, just general tricks on a flat surface etc.

Snooker always gets overlooked as some 'pub sport' sadly. Criminal that it always gets overlooked on SPOTY.

I disagree about cricket - it would be big in India/Pakistan, but wouldn't make much of a dent anywhere else - the US wouldn't care, South America would mostly not care, China/Japan wouldn't care. Aus/UK would just view it as another version, and it takes too long for ease of broadcasting.
