Wednesday, 01 December 2010Bus services update (0830)

Bus operators are starting to report of changes and delays to some bus services in Greater Manchester because of the overnight snow showers.

A number of areas of Greater Manchester have been subject to snowfall overnight with Oldham and Tameside being most affected.

Most main roads are being served, however buses may not be serving minor and estate roads. Passengers are therefore advised to head to main roads to catch a bus.

GMPTE will collate and post regular updates of changes provided by bus operators on this website. However, passengers are advised, where possible, to check their operator's website for the very latest information before travelling.

Updated websites: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.arrivabus.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.arrivabus.co.uk</a> / <a class="postlink" href="http://www.bakerbus.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.bakerbus.co.uk</a> / <a class="postlink" href="http://www.firstgroup.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.firstgroup.com</a> / <a class="postlink" href="http://www.stagecoachbus.com/manchester" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.stagecoachbus.com/manchester</a> / <a class="postlink" href="http://www.trentbarton.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.trentbarton.co.uk</a>

Rail services between Manchester and Sheffield are suspended due to snow and passengers for Sheffield are advised to travel via Leeds. Local trains from Manchester to Sheffield will terminate at Grindleford but there will be no onward bus service between Grindleford and Sheffield due to the poor road conditions.

For information on heavy rail services, check <a class="postlink" href="http://www.nationalrail.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.nationalrail.co.uk</a>.

Metrolink has not experienced any significant disruption to date. For the latest information on Metrolink services, check <a class="postlink" href="http://www.metrolink.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.metrolink.co.uk</a>.

Yesterday, Greater Manchester's Traveline service handled twice as many calls as an average 13-hour day. Despite this, staff still managed to answer around 90 per cent of calls.

Has anyone been out on the roads?? Every time I clear my car to go out, it comes down again, must have had at least 2 inches in the last hour in Ashton
I can see stadium from nmy office window. Can't see roads around it - but Gr Ancoats St is free and traffic flowing freely

Re: Tonight's game

Don't think I'll be going tonight as i live on a slight hill and can't get enough traction in the wheels to make it to the top. I only live in Salford! Just called the coucil to see if there's any chance they'd be able to grit our avenue and they basically said there's no f'ing chance. Even the binmen didn't risk coming down this morning. Gutted!

Re: Tonight's game

Whats going on?? A bit of snow and all hell breaks loose. Does nobody remember the "ballet on ice" against Spuds? Snow never used to stop games that much. Get out the Orange ball, scrape the snow from the lines and off we go! Simples. Now we have heated pitches and SNOODS? If the roads and pavements are slippery, set off earlier and TAKE YOUR TIME. Be careful, but it shouldn't stop us in our tracks, bloody health and safety is ruining this country.

Rant over, bye for now.

Cheers, Marvin.

Think I'll be getting the train in mind you as my car is feckin useless in this weather
