Top 105 Guitarists - The Winner page 33

I'm surprised Slash scored as low as that. An absolute icon and, in my opinion, very underrated in terms of his guitar ability. His solo's always worked seamlessly with the songs and seemed to capture the words and mood of the song as well. I thought he'd make the top 10!

He's also on the list of people I had the opportunity to see and didn't take the chance then they croaked-Gutted.
Add to that Queen, Rory Gallagher...Also miffed I didn't go and see Gary Moore in his later years. The still got the blues tour in the early nineties was the last. Saw him from the back on the streets era right through till then.
Also gutted I didn't go to the Thin Lizzy farewell gig at Reading festival (I think) when they were joined on stage by all the ex guitarists. Had the chance, didn't take it for some reason. Grand Slam, Phil Lynotts last band, was another I regret not seeing...Come to the think of it, Laurence Archer deserves a mention in dispatches too. Excellent guitar player.

Saw Archer a few years ago. He was playing in a band called X-UFO, alongside former keyboard player Danny Peyronel and Clive Edwards at the tiny Railway venue in Bromley Cross near Bolton. He and the band were excellent too.

I've seen six of those guys in concert, 3 of them (May, Townshend & Iommi) many times but none made my 10; although the aforementioned 3 were all in the group vying for a spot that missed out.

Although I’m not a huge fan of Queen (saw them at Milton Keynes Bowl) I do admire the uniqueness and style of Brian May.
I did include him in my Top Ten.

I recall reading an interview with Steve Vai, who is an amazing guitarist and a big Brian May fan, he said Brian let him play his (Brian's) original homemade guitar and it sounded nothing like May's trademark sound: it's hoe May plays not what he plays.

I think, but I could be mixing things up, Vai also said he can ape most players but not Brian.

May have been having a brain fog...but no Jeff Healy or Joey Santiago?

Beginning to think that I should have bumped Joe Pass up my choices by just one place which would have got him on the list :-(
