Tories have lost the vote of the young generation.

Prankster Simon Brodkin hands May P45 during conference speech

A prankster disrupted Theresa May’s speech at the Conservative party conference, waving a P45 at the prime minister on the podium before security guards tackled him.

Simon Brodkin, who sometimes performs as a character called Lee Nelson and famously showered the then Fifa president, Sepp Blatter, with fake banknotes, was dragged out of the hall pursued by journalists. “Boris told me to do it,” he said, referring to the foreign secretary.

Brodkin later confirmed that he was the prankster with a tweet:

I think standards have sunk to a new low.

Boris makes a joke about clearing dead bodies yet this guy still thinks its fair game to make a joke relating to his leadership the day after.

Probably more likely to gain publicity as he has a live tour ongoing currently

I do believe however that the costs of each course needs to be addressed.

Every Uni course should have it's costs based on resource needed to run the course (including text books, the fact students have to buy these separately is madness), expected future income and status of the University (Status based on academic results achieved for that course/subject). Then the cost would be subject to what the course is essentially providing, a better future.

I would argue for the inverse. Courses should be costed relative to the needs of the population to have people qualified as such. Under your scheme, a STEM subject would likely lead to a higher future income so you suggest charging more, which in turn means less people study STEM subjects and instead take Philosophy and go on to learn nothing of much value to the real world (especially as there would be no shortage of Philosophy graduates).

UKIP had the right idea by proposing free tuition for STEM subjects.

What a coincidence.

What has changed? Has there ever been an occurence of young people being able to afford homes easily? Lets not forget in the past interest rates were pushing past 15%... Did wages grow at 15%? I can't believe for one second that a working couple cannot afford a house and not just a house but any house.

Go to any music festival or shopping centre and there never seems to be any shortage of money being spent by young people. I have never seen a poor young person who can't afford an iPhone that is for sure. I have seen some of them with the latest iPhone yet I am working full time on a decent job and still have a knackered 5C... I know some people my age who say they can't afford a house but they pay £40 a month for the gym, £40 a month for their phone, £200+ a month for their car...

Case in point is Glastonbury where you had thousands of students crying about their crippling debts and poverty along with crying about their inability to afford houses in front of comrade Corbyn. Still though they were all poor enough that they managed to afford the £150+ ticket...

It seems to me something else is at work and I think some are far too self-entitled and are more inclined to turn their noses up at the houses they CAN afford. This is why you will always hear students say they want more affordable housing and NOT more council housing... They aren't stupid are they!

The other issue is how regional this housing crisis is, and how obsessed politicians are with the London and the South East.

Here in Bristol over the past 20 years or so we've umpteen MASSIVE new housing estates built:

Bradley Stoke
Stoke Gifford
Thornbury
Frampton Cotterell
Lide Green
Longwell Green
Charlton Hayes
Patchway
Yate
etc
etc
etc

I can go on and on. These are HUGE housing estates! Bradley Stoke alone houses 20,000+ people. 15,000 at Stoke Gifford. 12,000 in Thornbury. 10,000 at Patchway.

The entire population of Bristol is only some 400,000 and hasn't got up materially in decades. We already have plans now for another 2,000 homes within 1 mile of where I live. 2,000 more homes, FFS.

We have houses coming out of our ears, and as a result, house prices are only just now getting back to 2008 levels. I am sick to death of London based politicians imposing inappropriate London solutions to the rest of the country.

By which you mean affordable? Whats wrong with that? Thats the reason Mavis has announced her housing splurge today. Its about time that politicians told people the truth - they CAN deliver affordable housing for all that need it - it just means those who have enjoyed massive house price inflation will have to cope with deflation and the view for the kitchen window might not be as good. Not a great message on the doorstep but it needs doing and saying!

What needs saying is that we have too many new housing developments in the South West already.

I think housing policy is quite wrong. Too much emphasis on subsidising house buying, which merely forces prices up, given the inelastic supply.

What is needed is much more council housing in areas of shortage, together with a gradual phasing out of housing benefit, which merely pours public money into the pockets of landlords. To enable this, there should be a freeze on rents while the transition is made, until the increased number of council houses soaks up the demand.

Where you going to put them that's the problem. If I'm being honest and I usually am I wouldn't want council houses near me and I was brought up in one.
