Tory MP Nick Fletcher blames crime in young men on female Doctor Who

Agreed with you on the disingenuous tweet and the fallacious TV make kids bad argument he made

However, I think his point in the bolded was that positive male role models were being removed and replaced. Leaving boys with no role models on TV.

While I don't find this to be a credible argument, I must admit, it is an argument used ad nauseum on the left. I mean, the whole 'representation' argument I.e.. "Diversity, Inclusion and Equity" are all partly founded on the principle of representation. And how it's important.
Is it just me, or is it lost on others that the abbreviation of society’s new imperative for “Diversity, Inclusion, and Equality” is DIE?

We are living in strange times and I can't get my head around it half the time.

There was an excellent doc on BBC iPlayer this week being discussed on the Radio when I was going to work:

Most pertinent was the easy access to hard-core pornography to lads who's brains are still in the developmental phase. Back in my day we were lucky if we found half a copy of Mayfair hidden in a hedge! But also back in my day (1970s) we had Roger Moore as 007 shagging women with suggestive names and slapping them around a bit if he needed information. Yet as discussed elsewhere on here - in the most recent entry (no pun intended) Daniel Craig's Bond dare not even look at a woman funny for fear of getting 'cancelled'...

Somethings a bit arse over tit and I'm not talking about the pornography (again) when I say that!

Is it just me, or is it lost on others that the abbreviation of society’s new imperative for “Diversity, Inclusion, and Equality” is DIE?

Correct, but he got them in the wrong order. I did a quick search and the preferred acronym is EDI.

Maybe so, but having an argument of 'no male role models ---> male criminals' is in poor taste and I don't think the 'Diversion, Inclusion, and Equality' arguments are built on the same negative principles. Some are, and I'd probably have similar opinions on those too.

Its a completely fake argument because the truth is <0.1% of male characters have been replaced by female ones.

For starters there are still 276 series of doctor who with a male doctor. There are still 2 too many ghostbusters films and 6 star wars with a male protagonist.

@Dax777 knows this of course.

One of my first thoughts after seeing this on BBC news this afternoon was he must be one of the Red Wall intake.

Unsurprisingly, he is.

It’s as transparent and cynical as it is ridiculous.

I think this MP was clumsy in what he said, but there is something in this and just because he is a dick and mentioned Dr Who, it shouldn't be ignored. Take primary Schools for example, I'd guess that the staffing is mainly 90% female (the one I'm most familiar with). It is in a deprived area with many single parent families, when a relationship breaks up, do the children go to the father? very rarely. So a female lead at home, a female lead in the classroom..... plus we live in a world of hypersensitivity. I did some ICT work in the primary school I mentioned not so long ago - I saw staff admonishing boys because they had made 'guns' out of lego. WTF...

As in EDI-fy!!

Got it! ;-)

In my mind, it’s simple: EQUALITY.

Take care of that, and the I & D are already taken care of.

I wonder when, like LGBT, “society” will elicit another addition to the EDI list?

Rather than bringing us together under an EQUALITY umbrella, I feel like every sliver of society is seeking recognition, then inclusion for their uniqueness. Feels like a system designed to fail.

Just state, “I am human and equal to all other humans, regardless of the small differences created by the complexities of life.”

No need for other labels, and the inclusion becomes universal, no matter the strata or pigeonholes into which we continue to try to parse ourselves.

As a middle-aged white male, I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve found myself struggling for the pronoun, group list, or acronym society is currently requiting. Indeed, I have recently been told that beginning an announcement with “Ladies and gentlemen…” is no longer considered inclusive.

I was told that while “Hey, c*nts…” is probably more inclusive, and possibly even more accurate at times, I doubt it would go down well, either!

“Citizens of earth…”????
