Tory MP Nick Fletcher blames crime in young men on female Doctor Who

Why is he assuming that boys can only identify with fictional male role models?

Just as an aside, in the sci-fi series Foundation, Gaal Dornick (a male character in Asimov’s novel) is female, a majority of the most prominent characters are women, and a significant proportion of the cast as a whole are black.

This will hopefully irritate a certain constituency of viewer.

Anyway, it’s a truly impressive, thematically complex drama with some great characters and compelling multiple storylines. Which is all that matters.

Haven’t watched Dr. Who for years but it might appeal to fans of this series. And the special effects are on a par with Dune in some episodes.

Is it just me, or is it lost on others that the abbreviation of society’s new imperative for “Diversity, Inclusion, and Equality” is DIE?
Its hilarious too. People say it at work and I just shake my head.

Just wait until a colleague in his party goes on GB News to blame this for boys becoming transgender girls.

All male role models are being replaced by women....Is it any wonder we are seeing so many young men committing crime.

The two statements are linked.
Titled that he blamed a female Dr Who. He said no such thing.

I do agree with him on pandering PC politics nonsense. Every advert nowadays has a black dad, white ginger mother, lesbian daughter, son that loves his pronouns and a transvestite cat (can I even use that word now without angering some chubby 20 something with blue hair and no employment history?).

All of these diversity officers and inclusion committees just make everything seem farcical and I actually instantly notice it. Meaning the family, in an advert for example, screams PC and it just seems fake.

He blamed an increase in male crime on a female doctor who, female ghostbuster, female luke skywalker.

The rest of your comment just seems to be a rant that every single advert on TV is not directed specifically for you.

Its a completely fake argument because the truth is <0.1% of male characters have been replaced by female ones.

For starters there are still 276 series of doctor who with a male doctor. There are still 2 too many ghostbusters films and 6 star wars with a male protagonist.

@Dax777 knows this of course.
What gave you the impression I'm Pro his argument?

I'm confused.

As in EDI-fy!!

Got it! ;-)

In my mind, it’s simple: EQUALITY.

Take care of that, and the I & D are already taken care of.

I wonder when, like LGBT, “society” will elicit another addition to the EDI list?

Rather than bringing us together under an EQUALITY umbrella, I feel like every sliver of society is seeking recognition, then inclusion for their uniqueness. Feels like a system designed to fail.

Just state, “I am human and equal to all other humans, regardless of the small differences created by the complexities of life.”

No need for other labels, and the inclusion becomes universal, no matter the strata or pigeonholes into which we continue to try to parse ourselves.

As a middle-aged white male, I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve found myself struggling for the pronoun, group list, or acronym society is currently requiting. Indeed, I have recently been told that beginning an announcement with “Ladies and gentlemen…” is no longer considered inclusive.

I was told that while “Hey, c*nts…” is probably more inclusive, and possibly even more accurate at times, I doubt it would go down well, either!

“Citizens of earth…”????
By the way, the third term is not 'Equality' it's 'Equity' which doesn't really mean equality.

It's a weird argument to make when Peaky Blinders has a 15 certificate rating or post watershed and Doctor Who is a PG rated family show and broadcast at 6:20.

Most teenagers probably wouldn't openly admit to watching Dr Who unless comfortable in their nerd status, it's the sort of TV show that teenage boys would take the piss out of you for watching.
