I do agree with him on pandering PC politics nonsense. Every advert nowadays has a black dad, white ginger mother, lesbian daughter, son that loves his pronouns and a transvestite cat (can I even use that word now without angering some chubby 20 something with blue hair and no employment history?).

All of these diversity officers and inclusion committees just make everything seem farcical and I actually instantly notice it. Meaning the family, in an advert for example, screams PC and it just seems fake.

I used to watch Buffy when I was a teenager. That must be why I'm such a criminal mastermind now.

It's also a bit ironic for a member of a party who every time a cabinet reshuffle comes around, they are really careful to make sure they have enough female and minority MPs in it. It's almost as if they know that it's important that people from different groups feel represented.

Just posted this in Off Topic, but the MP was making this comment as part of the wider International Men's Day debate and to me highlights the danger of taking one person's words without the context. By changing traditional white male heroes into people that straight white men and boys (if there are any left) don't identify with, I can see why he has spoken this way - in the context of the debate.

Im interested in how you think diversity in TV adverts, as @Ric is discussing is going to happen naturally?

A casting director has to pick 5 people to be in an advert. Either they pick a diverse group to represent everyone they're trying to sell to, or they pick the same kind of overwhelmingly white faces that were on TV adverts from 1940-2000.

There's no organic process.
