I think we are at a stage now where Kompany will always be a risk. Such is the nature of large muscle injuries. It's about getting as many games out of him as possible

He starts for me. It has to happen. The simple fact is we keep clean sheets when he plays.

Problem is, we haven't been chasing 3 teams in title winning seasons. Lose today and I think chasing 3 teams down is too much to ask, especially when Liverpool away is our next league game and also with the fixture pile and injuries worries.

See where you coming from but I'm not giving up if we even lose our next 2 premier games there'll still be 11 games left and more twists and turns.

I keep thinking if we can just get through the current period without major damage then we'll get our players back and be there at the end, but you look ahead and see the fixtures and you realise that we are only going to pick up more injuries. We have to start doing it soon - even with a 2nd string team

I'm no doom monger. I hope we see the City from the first 5 games, the City when the chips are down, turn up on Sunday and remind everyone that we have the best side in the league. My worry is that we aren't playing well, we face a team that plays a style we struggle with and we're beset with injuries. We should be capable on beating Spurs playing well but we have to find form this weekend to do so.

No one is saying that Spurs are some all conquering Barca like team. They are however a young team that is really starting to gel. They've only twice finished top 4 but now they're in the title shake up. They have a good defence, a solid set up and some good players in form.

Maybe the pressure will get to them, this is new territory for them. In order to do that we have apply pressure, play well, become difficult to beat, no soft goals and start grinding wins playing badly as well as really hurting teams when we're on top.

We can't afford to give away soft goals in the opening minutes as we did against Leicester. No one knows what might have happened had that game stayed scoreless. Would Leicester start getting nervous? What we do know is they got a cheap easy start and settled well into the game.

We really can't afford to give Spurs an early goal to settle them. If we do it will be another long 90 mins on Sunday.

Fair enough mate, I probably got you wrong. I think our ideas on our current situation are pretty much the same, I just can't get my head round how many of our own fans have us beaten in this game before we've started. I can understand the malaise in the days after a defeat like the one last week, I'm as bad as anyone, but you pick yourself up for the next game. Reading some of the comments I don't know why some people bother.
This is a bit of a pointless argument really. We are only a point behind and jump above them if we win. But importantly they are in much better shape than us at present and must really fancy their chances of getting three points on Sunday. If we set up like last week and play poorly they will win easily. But if we have a viable game plan put in a shift and get a bit of luck we can win. That will keep us in with a chance and the possibility of moving forward.

The only thing that's pointless is the woe is me attitude of our own fans. I've read comments like 'underdogs', 'not favourites', 'no chance', and your if such and such 'they'll win easily' and 'they are in much better shape' etc. This may be your perception of the likely shape of things to come but it's only your perception, and the ramblings of a few disappointed fans on the internet, based on their opinions of what constitutes 'form' .

At least the point I was making was backed up by hundreds/thousands of opinions of people putting their money where their mouth is. I know you've convinced yourself that we're likely to get beat because the manager will pick the wrong formation or because we're playing a team that have won a few games recently, but the current implied probability is City win 47%, Spurs win 26%. That's with current form, the mighty Spurs, and our manager and the likely shite formation he'll pick factored in.
