Levy knew exactly what he was getting with Conte - another Maureen. A dour, surly and quarellsome man whose idea of football is to get everyone behind the ball and just defend for over 90 minutes.
You'd have thought after the dull and monotonous tedium of Mourhino's reign Levy would have thought twice about employing someone like Conte. A man who was never going to win over the fans with his tactics and explosive temper.
Levy got what he deserves.
He took substance (or assumed substance) over style again and hasn't got away with it. He took a mild risk getting Poch from Southampton a few years ago and it worked a treat (in terms of style, not substance) but since then he's been as safe as he can be with appointments with the sole purpose of being able to say he tried.
Mourinho? Serial winner? I tried.
Conte? Serial winner? I tried.
The next appointment will be a Poch-esque one (probably Poch himself) rather than chasing some old-school manager after being stung twice recently.
I think his first target will be De Zerbi at Brighton and then he'll go from there if he gets rejected.
