Does anyone know if Metrolink/police will be marshalling the trams before the game to avoid rival fans incidents particularly at Victoria and Piccadilly where away fans will be arriving ?
I wouldnt worry the police these days are pretty good at the big games. they pisted this on the leeds website so im pretty confident they will be on top of any groups coming to cause problems
Message from Greater Manchester Police...
On behalf of Greater Manchester Police I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Manchester, and the forthcoming Manchester City v Leeds United FA Cup fixture.
This is a great fixture involving two fantastic clubs with heritage and passionate supporters.
The last time Leeds United played in a FA Cup tie in Manchester was at Old Trafford against Manchester United. The policing operation at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday will be slightly different in a number of ways.
On Sunday you will see a number of Police Liaison Officers who will be deployed specifically to communicate with and assist supporters. These officers will be easily identifiable wearing blue tabards throughout the day and will work in a number of key locations. Please feel free to speak with them and ask questions you may have.
As Sunday is a shopping day in the City Centre, it will be busy. Please arrive in Manchester early as there are about 6000 visiting supporters travelling to the stadium. The stadium is a 25 minute walk from the railway station, or a few minutes by road if you park in the nearby authorised parking zones. The stadium turnstiles are likely to open around 12.30pm.
I am aware licensed premises in Manchester will be open as usual, and there is alcohol being sold to both home and away supporters inside the ground. Please note that the public houses in the immediate vicinity of the stadium are for Manchester City supporters only where a strict admission policy will be in place. I would ask that you drink sensibly throughout the day as there are a number of families attending the fixture and it is important that this is an enjoyable day for everyone.
Following the final whistle it may be necessary to ask you to remain in the stadium for a short time. If this happens you will be informed during the game by a tannoy announcement. Should this happen, you will have access to toilets on the concourse. This decision will be made during the game and only if it is believed to be absolutely necessary and for the minimum time possible.
Greater Manchester Police work closely with Manchester City Football Club to ensure everyone attending football matches can do so in a safe and enjoyable manner. This is an exciting fixture and we all anticipate a fantastic atmosphere. It is important that the football on the pitch becomes the story and that the reputations of two great clubs and cities remain intact.
