Transfer Nightmare After Winning The League

It's a bit like the rags signings.

I still have the idea that transfer window was part one of operation "put up with Mancini for another year but make sure he leaves next summer". Soriano was already there, wasn't he? And Begiristain was joining shortly after. Always thought there was more going on in the background than just poor recruitment.

Did his job and we got our money back
Mate, he played 53 times over two underwhelming seasons. If he did his job, he'd have seen out the bulk of his career at City like Fernandinho did.

Can't believe you've mentioned Fernandinho & Javi Garcia in the same sentence. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Garcia's first season was a bit underwhelming, but he started every game of that 13/14 run-in and took us over the line. He was also crucial in two key away games against Newcastle and Hull that season when he had to step into defence due to injuries (and Kompany being sent off) and saw us through with two clean sheets in 2-0 wins. He partnered Demichelis on both occasions.

Weren't we hampered by the looming shitstorm of FFP?

Mancini was told we only had a £50m transfer budget because of FFP. He was gutted, but accepted it & said he'd settle for RVP & Hazard for a combined £55m including some sales, & IIRC, wasn't De Rossi available on a free, but ended up signing an extension with Roma?

Soriano arrived & Txiki soon followed & the rumours were Pep was also supposed to follow too, but City didn't want to be seen to be sacking Mancini after the Aguerooooo moment.

Soriano later admitted that City were in talks with Pep, but it was difficult to do the deal at the time, & the following January Baldy agreed a three year deal to manage Bayern.

It seems it was always about Pep, hence City not wanting Mancini to build a legacy which would make it harder to justify his sacking.

Football's a brutal business. ¯\_(⊙_ʖ⊙)_/¯

He was indeed but still a huge upgrade on Fernando, utter gash.

I put a pound on Fernando to score first and City to win 4-1 v Stoke many moons ago, it came in 130/1- I said to the guy when cashing in at the ground a few weeks later I reckon I was the only daft bastard that had done that bet

I’ll always remember him for that, but fuck all else

I've tried to erase Javi Garcia & a few others bought around that period from my memory mate.

I'm not saying he was absolutely shite in every match he played, but I recall him mostly struggling to make an impact in the strongest squad in the league, managed by Pellegrini in 13-14.

We moved him on that summer. For me, that says it all.
