Transfer Strategy

we really need this guy involved in our business

We know that as soon as "City" are mentioned in any transfer, the price goes up. Maybe that the long term strategy of the club is simply never to get into auctions as you never "win" - you always end up paying the absolute maximum price.

I do think there's probably some truth in this, but by the same token if you want the best strikers in the world - Ronaldo, Kane, Lewandowski, Mbappe, Lukaku, Neymar, Messi - then you simply are going to be paying a lot of money.

United are paying £30m for a 36 year old. Real are bidding £130m for Mbappe and will probably go higher. Chelsea paid £100m for Lukaku. Even Athletico Madrid paid £113m for Joao Felix. You can totally understand why Spurs wanted £150m in this market when they look at the other transfer values.

I can't understand though why the club go into negotiations with these types of players and worry about the fee. If you want, say, Neymar you will have to pay £150m or so, that's the going rate whether you like it or not.

We've chased Kane and Ronaldo this window, so the club recognises that we need a striker. But strikers cost more than other positions simply because these top players are the ones who win big games. United will be massively strengthened by Ronaldo going there - he's likely to win them 15 points this season and push them to being genuine title contenders. That's the difference the top players make - see Aguero who did the same for us.

We desperately need - this week - a left back and a striker, and we've needed them for 2/3 years now.

The club really needs to sort this mess out and support Pep. He can't be expected to go 2 seasons without a striker and be expected to win the PL and CL. It's very, very difficult.

We must surely have some money to spend as we were going to spend £100m on Kane. I'm not sure who is available, but we absolutely need to be bringing in some new faces. £15m for Cornet from Lyon looks a steal to me, based on how he played against us in the CL. We should be taking him, no question.

As for a striker, we must be able to use Bernardo as a swap for one of the best in Europe, somewhere?

We can’t say that this window has been anything but amateurish.

We have had great windows in the past but have read this one all wrong.

The biggest cock up was Kane because he was our number 1 target and we were over confident for no good reason. This one error lead to us not bidding for Messi and getting dragged into the Ronaldo mess who, it should be remembered we were offered, rather than wanted.

Messi
Ronaldo
Kane
Lukaku

Any of these would have been great choices although I personally voted no to Ronaldo due solely to his age.

The fact is we have known about the zero striker issue ever since we let Aguero go and have had time to prepare a strategy. That strategy has failed spectacularly on all fronts.

None of our rivals had as greater need than we did yet we have somehow been left with the last chicken in the shop.

Im so glad we got Grealish but he was a buy out with no negotiation required.

It seems that when we really have to go all out for a Superstar we are still trying to penny pinch. The reasons for this could be a fear of how we are perceived by others or a desire to not be taken to the cleaners. However there seems a lack of decisiveness at crucial times that our rivals can capitalise on.

Im hoping we have something up our sleeves before Tuesday but it doesn’t look like it. I don’t want a panic buy but we should be ready for all eventualities and we don’t look like we have much of a plan this window.

Really Pep must be livid with this show despite how happy he says he is through clenched teeth.

Well come nowhere near the title unless one or two of our midielders scores more than 15. Which is huge ask.
Or we could just have 5 players each get into double figures and supplement that with a few contributions from the centre backs and full backs and lo and behold we have scored over 80 goals again and are top of the league.

Pep said several weeks ago that there is very real possibility we would not be signing a new striker and that he was very happy with his squad. Why does everyone suddenly conclude a) Pep is lying and b) the Club’s management team don’t know what they are doing ?

I for one think he isn’t and they do.

At the minute we are an injury away from our only recognised striker being out and one away from our stand in left back with no back ups . ..great planning absolutely bang on planning
Who is our recognised striker. As reported Gabby has asked pep to play him in wings only

Well for one pep isn’t going to come out in the media and say “I’m not happy with the players we have. Our strikers are terrible.”
I mean come on what do you expect him to say
