Transfer Strategy

Following today’s developments in terms of Kane staying put and it looking likely we won’t be making any further signings this window I thought it’d be interesting to have a balanced discussion on our overall transfer strategy and wether the likes of Khaldoon (who promised the fans we would replace Aguero in his end of season interview), Txiki, Ferran and Omar should be scrutinised.

I actually see an argument for both sides here. One on hand I admire the fact we won’t pay over the odds for our targets whilst on the other it’s pretty concerning we failed to replace Kompany and had a poor season that year and have now seemingly repeated the mistake with Aguero.

We have consistently missed out on Peps targets during his tenure here such as Sanchez, Maguire, Jorginho, Kane to name a few. I noticed tonight Pep has confirmed he will be leaving after his contract ends- This of course could be totally unrelated to this topic but thought it was interesting in terms of the timing after missing out on Kane.

Debate away (politely please- we are all blues).
We paid over the odds for grealish. But I’m glad we don’t get bullied by clubs and agents. One thing I don’t like is the bully boy tactics we use to get our main targets. We tap the players up and I know all clubs do that but then go to their pissed off clubs with really low offers

I posted in the Blinders thread - Maybe it’s time to make that big statement that we have so far never made and buy a worldy - don’t like Ronaldo as a person but if you want to deflect from the media crap about missing out on Kane then signing a superstar like Ronaldo will do just that - he is the ultimate professional and would want to go out on a high hopefully passing on some valuable experience to our younger players. For once City please make a signing that gets everyone talking not just at our club but across the premier league. I have had a season ticket at City for 40 years and I never thought we would be in a position to sign one of the greatest players in football and at the same time piss those red t***s down the road off completely. This would be the ultimate nail in their coffin and give us bragging rights forever - manure fans I know have been telling me for years that he will go back to them at the end of his career - well let’s show them that they are f***ing no hopers now and we are the top dogs. Give over.

Ronaldo, the ballon d'or winner who left United TWELVE YEARS AGO at his peak, is nowhere near that level now. He was overshadowed by Chiesa, last season. Which is probably one of the main reasons why he wants to leave now.

Can he still get on the end of crosses and bang in the goals? Yes. Will I be gutted seeing him having a final swan song at City? No.

He would join the likes of Dennis Law, Andy Cole, Peter Schmeichel...

Good luck to him.

You have a point, but who would you have gone for? Good strikers don’t grow on trees and the good strikers (Mbappe and Haaland) are far to expensive for City to go near them. Kane was the probably the best, most attainable striker we could have got this summer, but we still couldn’t pull it off.

We could have gone shopping at the under the radar market, but would they have been any better than Jesus/Torres/Sterling/Delap?
Andre Silva cost 25mil and scored more than Haaland. Patson Daka averaged a goal every 70mins in Austria. Messi was free, Ronaldo available for 25mil. There were options, we’ve put all our eggs in one basket and it’s blown up in our faces.

Bollocks. You put your effort into signing the player you want.

You think Daka and Silva are going to sit around until we have decided what's going on with Kane.

Andre Silva has been inconsistent for years, Daka hasn’t proved anything in one of Europe’s top leagues. Messi was free, but who knows if City were interested or not. Ronaldo could still happen.

Signing any flavour of the month striker isn’t how City go about their business. We identify a target and go balls deep in for them. If there’s no plan B or C, then probably means Txiki and his team don’t really see anyone else improving our team.

Eh?

Where’s the plan B then? When we knew we weren’t getting Koulibaly or Kounde, we had Dias as a plan B. But we’ve got a week left and we’re turning down strikers left and right. Are we going to have another season of false 9? We won the league despite it, not because of it.

which top players have manageable buyout fees? because Txiki seems unable to get others anymore.

or we need to look at clubs in financial problem who might accept less. Benfica messing up their CL playoff costing them 10s of millions euros, helped us big time imo in hindsight, we could be still fucking talking to De Laurentiis for Koulibaly...

lets be honest, if Grealish is naive as Charlie Kane, and there isnt a 100m fixed fee which they said themselves would be never matched most likely, I dont think we can negotiate a deal there either. and we will see next few years what value we got for 100m, he has to hit KDB level imo for that money imo.

Dias wasn’t a plan B , he became available at the last minute when Benfica got knocked out of the C/L. Maybe similar to Ronaldo suddenly seeming to become available at the end of the window.

Two things are for sure:
* Next time he scores for Spurs Kane will kiss the badge like never before.
* Most of the folk on here who said they never wanted him or it was too much money or he's not that good will be cursing the lack of a striker in a big game when City create a hundred and one chances and don't score.
