Transition season excuse

The Kompany, Yaya, Silva, Fernandinho, Aguero replacements are not at the same level unfortunately.

Yaya's replacement? Who gives a fuck about Yaya's replacement? We got 198 points in 2 seasons and 7 trophies with no Yaya anywhere in sight.

Silva's replacement is stuck on the bench watching.

Aguero's replacement has matched his goalscoring despite never getting a run of games, 28 goals in 40 starts. Not to mention Aguero is still fucking here! He played vs. Liverpool, Norwich, Spurs & Wolves.

Kompany is the only one we actually needed to replace, and how much we would have needed that if Laporte was fit is up for debate.

This whole "irreplaceable" narrative around retired players is so lazy and played out.

Are we not allowed a transion season then, every fucker else has one,it's not a decline either, the last 2 seasons were freaks in many ways,it's no disgrace to drop down from that lofty height

You’re spot on. Whenever a team has little chance of winning the league or achieving their targets it’s now just designated a transition season automatically. Chelsea are in transition and you can see that transition, United have been failing to transition for the past 5 years, We’re not in transition. we came into the season pretty much at our peak for this iteration of our side.

It’s a piss poor summer window combined with putting square pegs in round holes in an attempt to fix the piss poor window that’s costing us, along with some questionable pep tactics and a lack of variety in our play.

Funnily enough next season could actually be a transition season for us with silva the lynchpin of our side for the last decade going and Fernandinho and Aguero likely being phased out too along with the need to freshen up elsewhere and correct mistakes made.

It’s no disgrace. Just a natural decline.

Plus Sane and Otamendi will leave. Mendy we’d like to sell, but nobody will take him. Definitely a transition season next year with lower expectations. But the media will pile on the pressure and not allow us the freedom to transition.

We have had an incredible couple of seasons under Pep , the bar has been set so high to expect a repeat every season just isnt possible , players will have dips in form , we have had more than our share of injuries to big players and some dubious decisions from officials and VAR . All these facts have contributed to our current malaise , maybe a bit of realism and an average season collecting only a couple of trophies should be acceptable , and we can re-group and give the title another go next season. Shit happens.

i dont think its an excuseto say we are in transition at all.....we have a nunmber of very key players -premier legends in David Silva Sergio and Kompany last year along with Ferna all coming to the end of their careers. we have some young and up coming players who arent quite ready to be tested long term (Foden, the two lads at centre half)

Its quite a concern in that we may have to accept a couple of seasons of this as unless the club is willing to break all previous records - I dont think we can replace Kompany, Silva and Aguero plus a left back plus a replacement for ferna all in one window....that would cost ridiculous amounts of money (and i certainly dont belive GJ is upto replaing Aguero and as much as Foden is rated he is significantly lower level that a prime David Silva (understandibly)

We shouldn't be looking for excuses. There are three simple reasons why the season is panning out as it is - key injuries that have upset the balance of the team, cheating refs and misbegotten VAR applications, and not enough players performing to the level of which they are clearly capable.

I'd say we peaked last year and we can't recapture the spark from last year.

But we've been at it for two years solid, playing high intensity football, maybe we need to start again.

But I agree with a poster on another thread in that it looks like the last season's of mancini and pellers, we're as flat as a witches tit.
The one comfort is that we can put the league to bed and put all our eggs in the one basket for the champions league and the fa cup.
Still lots to go at for the season.

How can it be a transition? Nothing changed. We pretty clearly made a mistake in the summer by not refreshing the squad though, and we continue to make a mistake playing David Silva multiple times a week like he's 28 also.
