Notice you pick half a statement to quote, whereas PCS have a valid arguement to back up their statement, you just call them wankers...

Anyway, to carry on:

"Launching its alternative economic strategy (PDF), the union said the government should be creating jobsnot cutting them, and investing in the public sector to help the economy to grow and ensure against a double dip recession.

Other measures and facts outlined in the document include:

We should invest in areas such as housing, renewable energy and public transport
The UK debt is lower than other major economies
There is a £120 billion tax gap of evaded, avoided and uncollected tax
The UK holds £850 billion in banking assets from the bailout – more than the national debt
We could free up billions of pounds by not renewing Trident
End the use of consultants in the civil and public services"

I read it too. Saying our debt is not as bad as other countries is misleading as the other countries with worse debt (primarily Japan & Italy) are financial basket cases. Plus through the use of "off-balance sheet" mechanisms such as PFI, our real level of debt is actually far higher.

Investing in the public sector never created wealth in most cases (although it has its uses) and where is that "investment" going to come from?

Investment has to match income which is why the government published a target of debt at a maximum of 40% of GDP. It's now close to 70% which is above the EU's Excessive Deficit level of 60%.

I can't see why they can't stagger some of the cuts until the economy is off its arse? There is still the risk of double dip if they carry on. Particularly the benefit cuts. It's illogical at the very least to cut benefits whilst at the same time cutting thousands of public sector jobs. They want to get people back into work but there are no jobs available for them to do so, even if they wanted to. I don't see why the deficit has to be the immediate concern: as far as I see it its just a thin excuse for them to go about their usual regressive ways under the mantra of 'the last government fucked up our economy' and 'we're all in this together'. New politics? My arse.

I joined the royal mail union once..what a fucking joke that is.All the union did back then was look after the lazy work shy bastards and anyone who dared to speak up was turned on.Unions in principle are a good thing but i`ll never join another one while they dont see reason.Bob Crow..what a joke.

Someone please find the story where he threatened Brown with a winter of diconstent..think it was on question time or something but the man is not out for the common man..he`s out for bringing this country to its knees.Unions have never done anything for me..ever..i shit the lot of them and i`ve worked all my life and never needed one either.

And why wouldn't he welcome anyone discussing their concerns with him? What's he going to do, set his lynch mob on them?
