Just done a week in Morocco in May. Didn't get to Marrakech but flu to Agadir and spent 2 nights there. It's a nice enough resort, just a bit too commercialised for my liking. After 2 nights there we drove a couple of hours south to a small town called Mirleft. Hired an Airbnb apartment overlooking the sea and had a great holiday. Locals were very friendly, food was generally tasty and an interesting change. No fast food anywhere to be found, suited me. Weather was dodgy but it usually is in early May. I found Morocco to be a good place to holiday. I spoke to a few locals who said Marrakesh can be a bit dodgy. Oh, anyone thinking of hiring a car in Morocco drive very carefully and observe the speed limits. I got pulled twice by traffic cops with a mobile speed gun. The first one said I was doing 30 km over the limit but the last road sign I saw was 120km and I was told I was driving in a 80km zone. He said I was doing about 110 but I thought it was 120 km per hour. I was acting the dumb foreigner saying I didn't understand even though he was trying to fine me 80 quid which I understood perfectly. on inspecting my driving licence and insurance documents he the noticed Man City badge tatt on my calf and said "oh Man City I like them, very good team". He smiled and I smiled and then waved us on. Phew!
I have thought of Tunisia but I'm a bit reluctant to travel there having seen on the news what happened, and it was only 4 years ago. People say it's generally safe to go there nowadays, I suppose it is probably safer there now and I would like to visit Tunisia in the future.
Been to Turkey 4 times and some people say it isn't safe to go there. I would recommend it, but it's like anywhere in that if you could be part of a terrorist incident at any time nowadays sadly. It's sad the world has barriers but I try not to worry unduly and go on holiday abroad thinking all will be ok.
